Here's a link to a recording of All Of Me I did in my basement using a backing track I found on the net. This is my first atempt at using a file hosting service, please me know if a better one exist.
I used a 58 Stringmaster thru a 59 HiPo twin dry.

That was quite nice. That's just the kind of stuff I'm trying to play on my tricone. You hit all the notes very cleanly.

Thanks guy's, I appreciate the encourgement.
I play pedal steel most of the time, but to my ears nothing sounds as sweet and pure as the non pedal steel.

Mike -- I could tell you must be a PSG player from the phrasing and accurate single note work. Very nice! Are you in E9 or E13? I also recognized that track as one of the free 'play along' tracks done by Stephane Wrembel and (I forget the bass player's name) that you can get at:

http://www.stephanewrembel.com/rhythmtracks.html

I downloaded some of them too, and actually did a recording to the same song on tricone about a month ago, but didn't want to post it here. It isn't anywhere close to what you've done with it!

For those interested, Stephane Wrembel is a very, very good gypsy jazz guitarist who's really making a name for himself. Here's his myspace website, in csae you're interested in hearing more:

Anyway, great playing, Mike!

Todd,

Thanks for the compliment. I used an 8 string C6 tuning with a D on top.
Actually I didn't download the track, I just played it thru my computer speakers, set my amp nearby and placed a Zoom H2 recorder between them. I just played it til I got decent take.
I'm happy to see the link to Stephane Wrembel's killer site. Its been a few months since I recorded this and I'd forgotten where the track came from.
I would love to hear your recording of this song, you should post it.

Mike, is that D string over the E? In other words, hi-lo, D-E-C-A-G-E-C-A? Interesting you used the Zoom H2, too. That's exactly how I did it!

In any case, I may post it sometime, but want to try another take, as I'm just not happy with the first one.

Cheers!

Thanks, Kevin and Steve.

Todd,
Yes, thats the tunning I used. The D on the first string really cuts down on bar movement, and having it on the first string keeps it out of the way when playing chords. I think Buddy Emmons gets credit for the idea.
I would say most pedal steel players use this tunning on their back neck, adding a F for the 9th string (I really miss that on lap steel) and a C for the 10th string.
Someone should make a 9 string version of the Stringmaster, that would be the ticket.
