I'm trying to figure out the name of a song. This is all I know about the song:

I remember hearing the song pretty often on the radio in the late 60's or early 70's as a top 40 instrumental. It has a medium tempo and a very catchy melody. The instrumental lead was played by a piano and the backup was mostly brass.

Several years ago I think I remember hearing a remake of the song with lyrics this time. I woman sang the lyrics. From my vague memory it seems like part of the lyrics included the phrase, "I'm still the same girl" or something like that.

Within the past few days, I've heard this later version of the song used in a liquor commercial on TV for some type of alcoholic beverage with an Italian sounding name that is so long and hard to read that I've not been able to catch it.

Anyhow, I'd really like to be able to know what the name of this song is and who wrote it. If I had to guess who wrote it, I would guess Bert Bacharack (sp?) wrote it - but that's pure speculation.

Thanks for any help.

Tom,

Try this link. It may be Dusty Springfield's version of "Am I the same girl?" that you've got in mind.
There was an instrumental version of it in the 70's. It's been a pretty good while since I've heard that very familiar horn line from our nations pre-Viagra period.

The link goes to Amazon. If you scroll down a little bit, you can hear a sample clip of it. http://www.amazon.com/Am-Same-Girl-Dusty-Springfield/dp/B00000741W

If I remember right, the instrumental version of the song was called "Soulful Strut", a mega hit done back in the late '60s by a group called "Young Holt Limited".

THAT'S IT!! Very Happy

Thanks, guys! Now, (of course) I remember the title "Soulful Strut." I never new the artists' names. I remember that it seemed to get lots of air play back when it was new (don't remember the year). It's interesting to learn that it's Dusty Springfield who sang the vocal version. It's a great, classic tune in my opinion.

Thanks again.

This could be thought of as a "thread crap," Tom, but there's another GREAT Young-Holt tune from 1969 called Straight Ahead, a 45 whose flip side is called California Montage.

Well worth a listen, IMO, if you can find a copy.....
