Duane,
The photo shows what appears to be an 8 ohm magnet. Do you carry them in the 4 ohm version?

Tony, The magnet doesn't determine the impedance of the speaker, it's the voice coil on the basket. If you already have a 4 ohm BW speaker, you can install the Neo magnet on your speaker basket and quickly lose 6 pounds. |

Looking at Duane's site, and a close up of this magnet, it say's 8 ohm. So, I had to ask.
Thanks Jerry!

I just picked up one that I had on order from the local Peavey dealer. It's heavier than I thought they would be. But, he said something about 8 ohms too and I had to correct him about the voice coil, not the magnet determines the speaker impedence.
However, as I looked again, on the sticker on the actual magnet it does say "8 ohms". ????

As Jack says, the impedance is determinated by the coil. It's not affected by switching the magnet. _________________ 1983 Emmons D10 SKH, Carter SD10, Nashville 112, Session 500, ProfexII, Lapsteels, GT-Beard reso, guitars of all kinds...

Duane
Can you determine if the sound of the speaker has changed at all?
I am thinking of replacing my BW 15" in my NV 400 with a Neo speaker.
Since I injured my back and hip it is getting harder to load each time.
Every Lb I shave from it will help. |

I'm going to replace the one in my NV1000 is about 30 minutes. I'll post if there is any change in what I hear. |

I installed it on my Nashvile 1000. It "lost" 5 lbs according to my bathroom scale. It weighed 58 lbs before and 53 lbs after.
However I installed the Neo and got distortion on the bass strings. I took it back off, made sure it was installed correctly (it had been), put it back on and then nothing. I checked the voice coil and it's open. It will require a new 1501-4 basket now. I have a call in to Mike Brown. |

Thanks for all the replys. I couldn't really hear any difference in tone during normal use, but I think the amp will run cooler when pushed hard, which could make a big difference in vinues that require high volume stage levels. Only two Neo's left. D.D. |

On my scale the difference was 4# and the sticker on the magnet saying 8 ohms is a mistake by Peavey according to Mike Brown but rather than delay the production further they decided to just let it go until new stickers are made. To my ears the tonal difference is negligible. |

Jack, does this mean that replacing the magnet demands special attention as not to damage the voice coil ? |

That is always the case - care must be taken not to damage the voice coil especially when setting the new magnet on the basket. |

I'm waiting to hear back from a customer to confirm his order. He may take the last two remaining magnets. If not, there are others in line waiting. Perhaps other dealers may now have their back ordered magnets in-stock and can meet your request. Thanks for your interest. D.D. |

I received word from the Peavey dealer in McAllen Texas that I ordered my Neo Magnet and 1501-4 from and he said I should have mine by the middle of next week.
Don't take a chance on damaging the voice coil. Take three, 3 inch bolts and cut off the heads then screw them in to the bolt holes on the basket. Place the magnet over the basket on the long studs. Then one at a time remove the long studs and install the short bolts. Everything will line up like it should. No chance taken, no damage. Total cost about .75 cents.
I took the chance once several years ago and it cost me about $75 for a new basket. alan _________________ Mullen (Black) Pre G-2 9x7, B.L. 705 PUP's, Evans SE 200 Telonics NEO 15-4, BJS Bar, Peterson Strobo Flip, Steelers Choice Seat, Folgers Coffee and Hilton Pedals.
