Pursuant to a thread on pedal height (not wanting to hijack or broaden it):

I wonder if there is a standardized order of regulation on pedal steel as there is on piano. (Omitting key height, depth, and capstan regulation wil throw off every step that follows.)

Do mechanics/dealers/factories etc. have a particular regulation sequence?

Other than the fact that both have steel strings, I see almost nothing in common between the two instruments. That said, I think every steel manufacturer has a "baseline setup" when he assembles. Those setups and settings are then sometimes changed by owners and repairmen...sometimes with good results, and sometimes with no-so-good results. The vast majority of players do not understand simple mechanics. This probably explains the many posts we see saying "It's doing this - how do I fix it?"

Nothing to be ashamed of, really, but it does illustrate how few players are mechanically inclined.
