I've now heard several steelers' versions of this beautiful piece. What is the original version? Is it a movie score?

It's an Ennio Morricone piece from the Sergio Leone film of the same name, 1968. Ultra romantic orchestral/choral piece. Swelling strings, etc. Not my cup of tea but it is very much what it is. I have it right here & can rip it and send you the mp3 if you want.
