It's the EMG "Select" Pickup for strats from Stewmac.com
My complaint was that the stocker was too "Microphonic" and not well balanced at all. The EMG one did the trick, and being a blade type type, it balances the strings better.
It's also a LOT quieter.
It might be too mellow to you, I guess it depends on what style you want to play.
I'm curious what other might reccomend. |

I had another thought. You might try a Seymour Duncan SFX-01 pickup booster pedal. It can ad a ton of gain to your Artisan. MF sells them for about $80.
I use one of these in my pedal board for six string. I change between a Tele and a Paul or an ES-137 and I kick in the SFX-01 to match the Teles gain up to the Pauls. It really helps, I don't have to reset the amp levels or my other pedals to get the right ammount of drive. Also really slick straight into a BF Fender. It might work good for ya if the thing just lacks a little zip (output). |

I used one of these:
Duncan Performer
It's a four-wire pickup and I installed a switch to select one or both coils. I couldn't hear any big difference, so I changed it to switch between series/parallel coils, and still don't hear any difference. I guess the point is that two or four wires doesn't seem to make any difference in this application. I used this pickup because I already had it. I really like the EMG series of pickups recommended by John and Erv. If I hadn't already had the Duncan on hand, that's probably what I would have bought.
BTW, I have two of these: An older one branded 'Artisan' that, except for the funky nut and misplaced output jack, was pretty nice straight out of the box. I bought the newer one, branded 'Rogue', because it comes with legs. I expected it to be the same, but the electronics on the one that I received were total junk. I replaced both pots and the cap as well as the pup and moved the jack to the side of the guitar.

| The choice for me, If I get one, is going to be a Guitar Fetish pickup. They are inexpensive, exceptionally good sounding and easy to get. If you are going to put lipstick on a pig at least don't use expensive lipstick... just get the right shade! |
