As I am not a religious person and I know Bob won`t stand a religious discussion here but, I thought when they burn my bones I reckon I would like them to play the big E and Canon which I`ve always loved and I thought no one could equal his performance of it but when they get to the end bit, they should let this cat take over

Well... as I said in another thread, Dad's theme song for his radio show was "Steel Guitar Rag." At his funeral last August, I had my 'Bud up there next to the altar, and when it came time to wheel him out, I played him out with it. Everyone loved the whole service. I had a country band doing the music for the whole thing. Lovely Laney got up and sang a most moving song with just her guitar. It was beautiful...

I shall be buried under a palm three on the hills behind Puerto Plata, overlooking the Atlantic ocean (I want see view and the breeze!). There will be a big fiesta, with pretty girls dancin' around my coconut three (I shall be laid down face up!) and there will be plenty of food and drink and loud Salsa and Bachata music. No steel guitars... I'll take that one with me.

True story - I've got a solo fiddle medley that I play at funerals ocassionally. The family asked me to play at my wife's dad's funeral in Toledo. I played and after the minister finished the sermon he asked if anyone had anything to say, etc... My wife's great aunt..in her late 80's stood up and said "I think we should ask Rick to play some more."
I also played at my dad's funeral. That was more difficult, but I'm glad I did it. |

JD, I can identify with all you said there... The pretty girls won't be too hard to get ahold of. They are all over the place!
I'll get hold of that amazing duo with the keyboard and sax...they'll keep things going. The fiesta will just happen! It'll sure take a few days to wipe the smile off your face  |

| Mooney played Green Green Grass of Home at a family friend's funeral last Sat back in Arlington, TX (it's also the church he belongs to). My son said it was quite moving... just Moon and a guitar player. They played until all of the mourners had passed by the casket.... |

I know we won't hear it, but knowing the folks at the funeral service will, gives us comfort in advance.
Our fellow forumite, Eric West's version of `The Stars Look Down` on six string is wonderfully moving.
Even more so now, after Eck's recent health scare.

I had a thread of this same sort about a year ago in this section that got lot's of replies. Many of them were poignant and some pretty funny.
It'll be interesting to see what we get on this one.
I'd be more than happy with anything recorded by Jerry Byrd, or played live by my bud, Bobby Ingano, should I blast off before him. |

I am unable to download the link. I have recently updated my `Real Player` and it might be due to that.
Erv's arrangement of Abide With Me is very good.
I'll not be having any religious wording at my funeral, but the music will do fine.

I would seriously consider coming over to St.Louis with you to keep you company and record the event for the benefit of the British contingent but my new Zum is not going to be ready until December

When a dear friend Mr. Buddy Walker, who, by the way cofounded/started the Southern Steel Guitar Convention was laid to rest, there was only steel guitar music at his sendoff. As was mentioned before, I wont hear it but, John Hughey's Amazing grace, and Bro Jim Free singing In The Garden is my request.
FWIW..My steel is already set up there at Church, so if Steven, or Charles would like to knock out a couple of lively Gospel tunes, feel free to do so.

I'm not going to waste my time with a funeral- just when everyone gathers around to read my will, they first have to listen to 8 hours of my pre-recorded hack steel playing!!
