My wife are coming down to Austin for holidays.
We had hoped to catch Redd on a gig but he's not playing until Friday. Is anyone playing at the beginning of the week. We'll be there from Monday until Wednesday.

We leave thursday Morning for Nashville to visit Bobbe Seymour's store and catch the Timejumpers on Monday Then back To Edmonton Alberta on Wednesday Morning.
Suggestions from either town would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, everyone.

PS This is in June.

Andy -

When are you going to be in Nashville? I'll be there from June 16 through June 20, and primarily bouncing between The Station Inn & Opryland in the evenings.

Hope to see you there, Bryan!

By the way, are going to Jeff Bradshaw's steel festival In Carroline on the 22 of June.
That's why we're coming back a little early.

Our paths probably won't cross in Nashville. You are leaving while my business trip activities are in full swing. I'm staying south of Nashville, in Brentwood.

I won't be at Jeff's steel guitar extravaganza; however, I may need to contact Jeff for some parts if Mr. Seymour doesn't have them.

An interesting coincidence just arose. I agonized over staying over Saturday the 21st in Nashville to see Randy Kohrs at the Station Inn, but decided to leave that day. Two days ago, I was notified by friends that Randy Kohrs is playing in Calgary at Spruce Meadows this coming weekend.

Speaking of coincidences Bryan, are you the Dobro player my sister was speaking to in a restaurant in Lethbridge last Friday?

Mr. Blair -

I did play at the restaurant Miro Bistro on Friday evening past, and I never refuse to talk to a pretty lady, particularly if it means I get a rest from listening to my own playing.

And, are you going to buy that delightful reso at Lucky Star Guitars? They tell me you play it every time you're in town. Or maybe they're trying to get me to snatch it from under you?

Sorry to hijack your thread, Andy. But I suppose the common element in this off-topic is "Alberta"?

Andy, where are you staying in Austin? Seems like there is always something worth seeing at the Continental Club. Maybe also you can catch Neil Flanz at the Spoke - why not drop him a line and see if he is playing? See you at Jeff's show.

Bryan, that Jasper reso is a great axe, but it hasn't caught me at a weak enough moment yet. I still marvel at the presence of a store with such a fine collection of upscale and vintage instruments in my old hometown!

It seems to me that forumite Chris Scruggs indicated that he had relocated to Austin when I tried to link up with him during my previous Nashville trip a couple of years ago.

I'm not aware of who he is with nowadays, but he was with BR549 for awhile, and I've also seen him on youtube with Big Sandy & The Flyrite Boys.

I'll be staying at the Austin Motel on 1220 Congress avenue.

I forgot that Neil Flanz had moved to Austin. I'll see if I can find his e-mail.

PS Redd says I'm right across the street from the Continental Club.

I e-mailed Neil Flanz with the address I had and it came back. It must be and old address.

Monday - Sarah Elizabeth Campbell at Artz Rib House. Long term soulful acoustic songstress residency, and you can get your BBQ eaten too; go for the baby back ribs, even though this is brisket territory. Or Chris Gage, great guitarist, at Donn’s Depot. Haven’t seen him in a while, but I think acoustic.

Tuesday - Jim Stringer at Ginny’s Little Longhorn. Very cool little bar; Jim Stringer is an excellent tele player; real Country. The Austin Old Time Fiddle Association has their weekly session at Artz Rib House, 8 - 10. Fiddle virtuoso Erik Hokkanen at Flipnotics.

Wednesday - Carolyn Wonderland at Artz. Dale Watson at Broken Spoke.

Thursday- Jesse Dayton at the Broken Spoke, with dance lessons at 8:00.

Thanks, Leon!
It looks like my wife and I are in for a treat! We are also taking the Duck Tour (with an amphibious vehicle) around Austin, during the day on Tuesday.

Andy - I play a Happy Hour gig with Herb Steiner on Steel at the Broken Spoke on Wednesdays, 6:15-8:15. Tony Harrison is the singer. Lots of western swing.

Also, we get many of out-of-towners at Jovita's on Thursdays for the Cornell Hurd Band. Scott Walls is the steel player and truly fantastic. We play 8-10.
