Is the steel event associated with the Trufant "Stump Fence" festival?

Thanks Danny for posting this. I plan to be there too. It'll be a great time.

Budd, no, it's not connected in any way with the Stump Fence Festival, but you do have the right town. BTW, they probably oughta call Michigan the Pine Stump Fence State. There are still a good many miles of them in existence throughout the Lower Peninsula. When I was a kid they were still dynamiting and bulldozing white pine stumps in the area where I grew up. Some of those stumps were at least 3 or 4 feet across the top and had huge roots. They were full of natural turpentine and the knots would burn for a long time.

Tim,

Back in the eary 1900's, my grandfather bought a farm in the Sand Lake area that came comleat with stump fences. Being a progressive man, he burned them and replaced them with barbed wire fence. For the next 2 years snakes were every where! He got so he could kill rattle snakes by stepping on their tail and sliding his foot up the body to snap the head.

My grandmother was not ammused.

The last I saw, old stumps were being used as yard ornaments in the area. If I can't learn a hot lick soon, I may have a PSG as a yard ornament!

Al,

You bet I'm gonna let you try my new Fessy. If we're really lucky, maybe you'll play us one of those pretty big band tunes that you do so well.

See you there,

Skeeter

Hey steelers,

I just got off the phone with Clayton Lyon. He asked me to bump this up.

They are gonna try to start playing at 12:00 noon. Do any of you cats remember Gary Hazen? Well, he's back in Michigan and he plans to attend and play. Also Jerry Hendricks expects to be there again. Plus lots of other real good players. So we should hear some great pickin'. ALL steelers are welcome to attend and play. We will have a good time jamming and talking. Bring a dish to pass. Aso we generally pass the hat for donations toward the rental of the hall and gas money for the house band, so if you can help in this way it will be much appreciated as well. See you all there!

Hi Tim-I am glad to hear that Jerry Hendrix is coming. Haven't seen him in a while.

Clayton said I could use his Nashville 1000, I'd appreciate it, lots better sound than my old crate.

I will be glad to see you and all the guys again.
The good Lord willing, of course...al

Clayton Lyon was kind enough to make a long distance call a few weeks ago to tell me about this year's jam. (He was kind enough to let me try his new green Emmons at last year's jam, so I've got a pretty positive impression of him by now). Unfortunately, this weekend doesn't work out at all well for me. I'd appreciate it if one of you guys could remember to tell Clayton that I very much appreciate his having called me, and hope to make a future event.

Last year's jam was great, although I didn't bring my own gear and actually play with anybody. Trufant is a beautiful town, and that old high-ceilinged town hall had a great sound.

I guess I could use another year's practice, anyway.
