After discussing it with everyone at the Jamboree, we are now going to be having steel guitar shows four times per year. The big show will still be the last weekend in April of each year, and it will be the one to have several of the professional players attending. The shows would be on the last weekend of January, April, July, and October.
The other three will be featuring more local/area/regional players, and we would love for anyone interested to come and be a part of it. There are some truly pro level players who will be in attendance, and although they may not be as well known as some of the legends in the steel guitar field, you certainly will still enjoy their playing.
I had several ask me back at the April show, if we would consider starting a steel association covering this area. Since several voiced interest in one, it is certainly being considered, however I don't want to do anything that would be in conflict with any of the existing ones. But, I don't know of any that specifically covers North Mississippi, North Alabama, Southwestern Tennessee, and Southeast Arkansas. Of course if we do get an association started, then anyone out of the area would also be more than welcome to join and take part in it too.
If any of you folks are interested in this, let me hear from you here in this thread. Again, though it may be a smaller show and/or association, anyone from any location, who has an interest in steel guitar is welcome.

Count me in. I'll help anyway I can. It takes a lot of work to put a show on that most folks have no idea about. There's a lot work of behind the scenes that is steadily going on. I found that out last August during our first MSP show in Laurel, MS. Our success for a soldout show was getting a lot of the local folks involved in the Laurel area. Then we simply added out of the areas players like Bill Stafford, Buck Grantham, Royce Tarver, etc. as icing on the cake, so to speak. A steel club in your location would be perfect, as the Gulf Coast has the Deep South Steel Guitar Association(DSSGA) and we already have the Mississippi Steel Players Club(MSP) in the Laurel, Hattiesburg, Collins areas up to Meridian. We look forward to seeing everyone again in Fulton. Thanks for your continued support of the best instrument in the world > STEEL GUITAR! |

Thanks guys. I appreciate your interest. I'm certainly looking forward to the next one, which will be the last weekend in July. I've heard from some through email too, and it was positive as well.
Just keep passing the word to everyone you think might be interested, and hopefully we can all make this fun for everybody. |

Hi Mike,
Yes, these steel shows will be at the same place, The Tombigbee Jamboree, 704 Access Rd in Fulton MS. They will start at 4:00pm and go until at least 10:00pm. and again, we welcome everyone who would like to come and be a part of it.
Billy, are you still playing the GFI? Man, that was a really great sounding steel...of course, the guy playing it being a super picker didn't hurt matters either!
I'm now playing a Sho~Bud LDG, and no longer the red D10 that I played on the show in April. I feel like I'm back home now, as the Sho~Bud LDG has always been my favorite model of a pedal steel. I like the look, tone, and playing feel of them, and my being one of Lloyd Green's biggest fans no doubt figures into it too!
This one has the gumby headstock, curved knee levers, two hole pullers w/nylon tuners, original Sho~Bud single coil pickup, and square front. I'm guessing mid 70's |

This is great Lem. You have the perfect place and perfect people to do this. I will be in Branson in July but will be at all the rest of them. One day I'll get up enough nerve to play. Ya'll have one of the best shows of anyone anywhere.
Are you liking your LDG. They are great guitars.
Looking forward to seeing all of you in Oct.

Thanks for the nice comments, Doc. We'll all be looking forward to seeing you again in October, and I'm also looking forward to hearing you play sometime.
About the LDG... yes, I love it! It still looks great for it's age, no fading and only some minor bar dings, plus it sounds like a Sho~Bud LDG should. I'd LOVE to have the Show Pro that you listed for sale, but unfortunately I don't have the funds for something like that. I'd have to try to sign up for the handy dandy payment plan to handle that one! |

Hey Lem, the GFI was and is a nice little guitar but it's found another home over in Natchez, MS. Currently, I'm playing a 07' S-10D Magnum. Just installed a BL-710 p/u in it and it's howling at the moon, so to speak. It'll get tested in Ocean Springs this Saturday. The LDG is a great guitar. Over the years, I've had 4 different ones. All good guitars. I think you'd look real good sitting behind a Magnum S-10D, Lem! You might be surprised! I can make it happen if you decide on one. We're behind you guys 110% in north Mississippi. Hey Doc! |

Thanks Skip! I appreciate the help. I'm hoping that with everyone pulling together, we can continue improving, and hopefully make these enjoyable events for everyone.
Jerry, right now for the big show the last week in April, it will be Friday night and Saturday. For the other three shows, right now were planning for Saturdays only...but, that could change, and if so I'll be sure and mention it here. I hope you can come and be with us. I'd love to hear you play!

Sounds good, Jim. We're all looking forward to you being back with us. You've made a lot of fans up in this part of the state! I wish that Doc was going to be able to make it, but hopefully he'll be back at the one in October. |
