I recently bought a fender d-10 (8-4) and have been told that they were contract guitars built by sho-bud.I am interested in knowing the history of this and where they stand as far as quality and collectability. Are they rare or desirable? How many were made? This guitar has been under the bed over 30 years and is in mint shape. (It is black so it must have superior tone) Very Happy Laughing

Here you go, John:

FENDER/SHO-BUD

In the early 1970's the Fender Guitar Company contracted Sho-Bud to produce a Fender/Sho-Bud pedal steel. This model and the Super Pro were very similar in design except for the body and the key head. The undercarriage was basically the same as used on the future Super Pro. These Fender/Sho-Bud pedal steels had the ash tray Fender style keyhead. The changer used was a triple raise-double lower, and was similar to the Super Pro changer. Other then the changer and undercarriage, this model had a look that was different then the regular Sho-Buds.

The quote is from this site:

The model is known as the Artist Pro, and it came in D10 and S10 configurations. I believe Bobbe said most of them were made in '76. They also made a 3+1 student model. Do a search on "Artist Pro" or similar keywords and stuff should come up on this and the old forum as well. They seem to have a pretty good reputation, although the pot metal is prone to breakage and premature wear.
