(note the set list taped behind the back neck) When I first made the aluminum necks, it was around 20 years ago and they were solid. Not only did I need fork lift to pick up the guitar, but whenever I got a session, they would put me near the air conditioning vent. Aluminum is very temperature sensitive. When the air came on, I had to re-tune, when the air went off, I had to re-tune. I'm the reason producers think that steel guitars can't play in tune.
The necks now are machined underneath, for lightness and I also made a few other mods, like how the changer mounts to the pillow blocks, necks and body and I connected/welded the keyheads together and they bolt directly into the ends of the necks, to make the changer/neck/keyhead assembly more rigid.
Another issue, for me, was the changer end and I "beefed it" by adding a piece across the bottom of where the end plate should have been. I've since taken the peds and knees off the C neck, because I'm using this guitar on a regular basis, in a different kind of venue, and I filled it in and installed Carvin active/passive electronics to go with the George L 5-way pickups. I also glued fender washers to the underneath to help stiffen the connection between the pakka wood and the necks. The two bottom strings on the C neck are both .090 and I want the console to be as rigid as possible.
This is what it looked like around 20 years ago:
The guitar has a lot of mileage on it. Good Luck -- chas |

Dee Lannon, Russel Scott on bass, Nick Kane on gtr and I think that's Phillip Aubuchon (sp?)on drums. At the Blue Saloon in North Hollywood, we had Sunday nights. Now that I think of it, that must have been '90 or '91.
Dee was a lot of fun to work with. |
