Positively a Sho-Bud, I know this guitar! As a matter of fact, I have one just like it in my collection. VERY collectable guitar! VERY! Probably go at a small price also. The next Bigsby in collection values!
Anybody remember "Shady Brown" from ft. Worth? Late fifties and early sixties.

DEFINITELY a Sho-Bud. I know where one like it is, here in South Carolina.

I notice there's no Sho-Bud logo, which suggests that the wood has been refinished.
Are those the original pickups ? |

They are original in the picture, but I feel the picture is very old, no telling what the actual guitar looks like today.
The Standel amp in the picture is a '59 and worth about five grand now.
Ole' Neal Flanz looks pretty young in the picture, huh?

I feel the guitar for sale is positively NOT a Sho Bud!

See what happens when someone puts pictures of two entirely different items in a listing? People's eyes get big, they get all excited, and then they realize they've been fooled. This is why you have to be very careful buying from ebay! Personally, I consider the ad a downright deception, even though the seller admits in the listing text that the guitar in the main picture is not the one that's for sale.
This is called "bait and switch" advertising. |

I cannot see how anyone could accuse the seller of bait and switch.
Even a careless read of his description of the item tells you what he is selling. He provides more than enough clear photos and he even speculates what the guitar may likely be.
My guess is that if you are complaining about the ebay ad you were never interested in BUYING what is for sale, unless of course you thought you could actually buy Neil Flanz the person for a hundred dollars.
HERE IS WHAT THE SELLER STATES IN THE AD:
For your consideration is an early cabinet end Double 9 string pedal steel.
Those look like Early cast aluminum 60s Sho Bud Gumby roller keyheads/changer/pedals surrounds to me. Here is a pic of Neil Flanz playing a Sho Bud that appears to be very similar.
If you plan on using it to heat your house, please remove the strings before burning it.
If you own a steel guitar themed night club, you could hang it on the wall.
It would make a dramatic viking funeral pyre for your dead house cat.
The only legitimate issue I can see someone getting upset over is the seller's not capitalizing Viking. That may offend some folks.[/i] |

He should NOT have put the ShoBud pic on there.
Those with good knowledge will see the difference, but there are plenty of folks who will equate the real Bud with whatever this guitar is. |

No. in the first place, I would not be interested in a Sho~Bud that old. In the second place, the ad mentions a Sho~Bud. Ebay positively frowns upon using famous brand names to sell junk (even if they admit it's junk). Were someone to complain about this ad, ebay would pull it immediately, especially since it has the Sho~Bud picture and "Sho~Bud" name mentioned. Here's what ebay has to say:
"Counterfeits, unauthorized replicas, unauthorized items...or unauthorized copies...are not permitted on eBay....
Keyword spamming is not permitted on eBay. Keyword spamming occurs when sellers place brand names or other inappropriate keywords in a title, subtitle, item specifics or description for the purpose of gaining attention or diverting members to a listing. The text sellers place in listings must be directly relevant to the item being sold."
I think that's pretty easy to understand. Don't you? I have no interest, one way or the other, but the ad is in clear violation of ebay's policies.
You can't argue that. |

Looking at the bottom photo, it appears as though the legs of the guitar are not angled out. It looks like they go straight down. |

It is NOT a SHO-BUD that he is selling! Period! The opening picture infers that it is! You don't call that deception? I was decieved! That's why I left my first post in.
One picture is a Sho-Bud, but what he is selling isn't. IT ISN"T! Deception personified!

The guy NEVER states that it's a Sho-Bud. In the title listing, he has a question mark after Sho-Bud. I was fooled, but the handles look too modern, etc., etc. But if one reads the listingcarefully, the guy NEVER says that it's a Sho-Bud.
No "bait and switch,"here. Bait and switch is when I offer you a pair of Levi's, only to tell you that the Levi's don't fit, or are out of stock, and I sell you a pair of Bobbe Seymour's double-knits. |

If it looks too good------ ,Ebay sends a Red warning when you attempt to post a descriptor that may lead to problems ,just try "Like New" or mention the wrong name , however they will let you post it ,looks like Dispute city to me. Stephen, you clearly admit you were fooled...
Stephen Gambrell wrote: |

The question-mark in the ad title implied (to you and others) that "this might be a Sho~Bud".
The "bait" is the Sho~Bud name (it gets people to open up the listing). Even if the seller is perfectly up-front in the text, the use of famous name in the ad is bait and switch. The "bait and switch" game has many variations, not just the ones you mentioned.
Here's another example:
You pass a music store and a sign in the window reads "Sho~Bud Guitars". You go in the store, and the guy apologizes and says he has none for sale right now...but he still got you in the store! "I do have this real nice Red Baron over here, but it's certainly no Sho~Bud..."
He "baited" you in the store with a brand name, hoping to "switch" your interest over to something else. No, nothing was promised, and the dealer was totally up-front with you - he didn't have any Sho~Buds.
It's still bait and switch, my friend. |

since the guy's selling it for firewood and admits it doesn't work i don't feel he is trying to rip anyone off.
i am curious who made the headstock and changer end castings though. |

Even though it's not a Sho-Bud it doesn't look irrepairable to me. It's all a matter of how much time and effort you want to put into it. By the time you've replaced unworkable parts, and probably both pickups, you'll probably have reached the price of a servicable instrument. |

I took one look at the junk that is being offered for sale. Why waste time and money on it, no matter how cheap you can get it for. Only good for a few parts, and thats not saying much. _________________ Sho-Bud LDG, Martin D28, Ome trilogy 5 string banjo, Ibanez 4-string bass, dobro, fiddle, and a tubal cain. Look at the "bottoms up" pic. There are supposed to be 9 pedals. There's so much missing down there that fixin' it would be a huge job. Of course you could strip everything out underneath, lock up the changer fingers, rewind the pups, and you might end up with a cool-lookin' Western Swing non-pedal guitar.
But it ain't gonna be, nor ever was, a Shobud! |

Tracy, the steel in the first picture (the real Sho-Bud) was built for Shady Brown and delivered to him in Ft. Worth TX. The picture with Neal Flanz with the guitar was in '59, just before the guitar was delivered to Shady B.
I knew you have to know him Tracy.
