In the new issue of www.vintageguitar.com there is a segment on Mr. Beauchamp's original design pick up, and included is a nice close-up of this incredible and historic PU. These are what were on the first Ricky's and other very early electric steels, and what Joaquin Murphy had installed into his 3X8 Bigsby console.
Edited to reinforce the thot that this particular Ricky PU design is not the usual 1 1/2" PU that most early steels/guitars have installed, but rather these are the extra big fat magnets that are rarely seen, as Rickenbacher soon re-designed/reduced thier mass on the remainder of production models.
Why?

A friend and customer (for aircraft maintenance) has a Rick solid body electric 12 string, and another new one ordered. He tells me that some of his music buddies had never heard of Rickenbacker guitars!!
Goes to show how many people in music are ignorant of the history of instruments. The Beatles used Rick equipment in their early days,so it's not like Rick stuff was unheard of back then.
That was a good article Ron, thanks.
