Could somebody please try this and let me know what results? I don't have a horseshoe to test it on, but I imagine that it might not work so well because of the limited access and the fact that the magnet already surrounds the strings.

Yes, they work fine with any pickup. E-Bows generally work better when used away from the bridge and pickup, anyway. The further you are from the bridge, the more volume and sustain you get.

I think it's always a good idea to keep an E-Bow a few inches away from the pickup, as it works by generating an oscillating magnetic field. Oscillating magnetic fields can, under the right circumstances, damage (weaken) the magnets in a pickup.

You can even use an ebow on an acoustic!!!!
