As part of the Bakersfield Sound project I'm helping with at the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame I've done a page for late singer Bobby Austin and forumite John Paul Jones who passed away.

This post is to actually ask if anyone has a good scan or scan of a good pic from one of Bobby Austin's solo album in the 1960s.

Jason, I can't help you directly but one of my pickin' friends from the past, Mac Curtis, may be able to.

Hey Jason,
You might be able to get a picture of John Paul from Blackie Taylor. He's at btmusic@earthlink.net. I enjoyed your two pages about these guys. I knew JPJ but never got to play a gig with him except jamming around a little. I first met him just before I got out of the Army in 1963 at Fort Ord near Salinas, Calif. He was working at a club in Seaside called "Joe Sent Me". He had a white steel which might have been a Wright Custom and had "John Paul Jones" painted across the front of it. I sat in with them a few times on lead guitar and JP would play steel. I didn't see him again until sometime in the 70's when he moved back to LA and did the stint with Sammy Masters. I saw him in Blackie Taylor's music store and we renewed our aquaintance and talked about the old days for a while. I got to see him quite a bit while he was in town at that period. One helluva nice guy.

Jason I know Fuzzy Owens produced a lot of albums.Didn't he for a while, also play steel for Merle Haggard.It seems like I saw him playing steel at the Fort Bliss NCO club.

Gene, I've been meaning to track down Mac Curtis due to his stint with Rollin' Rock Records in the 1970s.
Thanks for the contact page, did he ever work with Bobby?
Jerry, cool idea, I'll drop Blackie a line.
Ray, yeah Fuzzy was the original steel player for the Strangers on and off through 1965-1967. Ralph Mooney, Norm Hamlett and Neil Flanz popped up as steel guys, but it was of course Norm who got the permanent gig in 1967 after a couple of years of Hag trying to lure him aboard.
