I have a 2003 Gibson Custom Shop '58 Historic. If you know what this is, then I don't have to type a bunch. Has a Madagascar Rosewood fretboard. Also:

Hard-rock maple plain-top, great figured back
Ken Guitars rings, pick guard.
Vintage Spec knobs -- expensive
Sheptone pickups double white under the covers 7.7/8.0 ohms
CTS pots and paper/oil caps
Neck slightly re-shaped to be EXACTLY the same as a vintage 1958 Lester

This guitar once had new Grover Rotomatics on it. I replaced them with original tuners. It has lots and lots of wear, especially to the back. Used but not abused by a pro player in Tokyo.

Great vintage tone. Beautiful teaburst.

Paper work case candy etc.

I need a D-10 to gig. I'm looking for a Sho-Bud Professional, stock. Dings, wear, rust okay. Must have original pickups.

Tom, don't do that to me! I had breathing problems and near heart failure until I opened your topic. Whoa! [Guess I didn't see the Historic part of your header].

I was 'bout to make some phone calls and offer you 2 or 3 'Buds thinking your '58 was an original Laughing

Anyways, good luck finding a trade. I'm sure the reissue LP is a fine axe with custom appointments and will be the pride of someone's collection or just make a nice player.

Sorry to give you palpitations. The guy who had this guitar had a real '59. I played them together and this one had more of everything -- 'cept the price! -L-

That's a beauty, Tom. If I had the steel you're looking for, I'd trade in a heartbeat. I have a '59 Historic Reissue, also made in '03, which is about the same but has a pretty flamey hard-rock Eastern maple top. That was a very good year for these guitars - perhaps the best. I'm almost afraid to take mine out, I could use one that's been played. But alas, I don't have what you're looking for.

For those of you who are not familiar with these guitars - they are the best Les Pauls Gibson has made since 1960, IMO. They are shockingly fine reproductions of the real deal. I think the Eastern hard-rock maple, like on both Tom's and my guitar, really makes a difference. They are killer Les Pauls in every way. In fact, to my tastes, mine blows away any 50s Les Paul I've ever had, and I've had a few.
