After seeing this, I'm definitely revisiting C6 for this style of playing.
Kevin is also a monster Tele picker!
And if you haven't checked out Duke Levine before, I recommend all of his CDs. He's one of the most soulful and masterful guitarists on the scene.

| Duke Levine is one of my favorites too; he epitomizes taste and tone and has an ear for hearing old tunes in fresh new ways. He did a killer Tele version of Jerry Douglas' "I think it's gonna work out fine" several years ago on his CD, Country Soul Guitar (I think). As for the steel work, I love how Kevin mixes the full chord volume swells in C6th with the linear, single string Sacred Steel-like phrasing. Mick Goodrick's book, The Advancing Guitarist, talks about the value learning to play scales along one string. He calls it "The electric ice skating rink." Nice volume pedal work too. I like the effect on some material but had to give up on volume pedals after many different attempts. I was a foot pumper and couldn't break the habit. |

Totally agree on Duke Levine--the king of Country Soul--and Kevin Barry and that sweet C6 solo. I had to grab my Tele to see if I could work out the tune. Just gorgeous.
My band and I took a shot at Think it's Gonna Work out Fine awhile back--hard to capture the Duke magic, but a great tune nonetheless. But(and not to be a music weenie) I think it's actually an Ike and Tina Turner tune. Surprised the heck out of me. I didn't know Jerry Douglas did it--gotta grab that one too.

I always assumed that Jerry Douglas was inspired to record it by the first version I heard, which was Ry Cooder (with David Lindley!) on "Bop Till You Drop".
