A bass player friend has a Beringer BX1200 bass amp with a 12" speaker and at times would like to use a 15" extention speaker instead of the 12". What would be a good choice for a speaker?
Thanks..Bill _________________ Bill Ford S12 CLR, S12 Lamar keyless, Misc amps&toys Sharp Covers

Peavey Black Widow 1502-4. Or it might have to be the 8 ohm speaker depending on the amplifier. |

The Eminence Delta 15 is a good 15" bass driver at about half the price of the Peavey.
But one factor is the the cabinet - cabinet types for bass speakers are a critical component. Also, 15" bass speakers are not really as popular as they once were; they can get very mushy and unfocused compared to a pair of good 10" bass drivers in the right cabinet. An Acme low-B 2x10 cabinet will blow away most 1x15 setups; on a more economical level, Ampeg 2x10 cabs are not expensive and sound very good.
A 2x10 cabinet might be a vast improvement over the stock 12 in the Behringer, but I would not expect miracles; that's a real low-budget bass amp and very low-powered; it could not even drive the Acme cabinet, and personally I think a different speaker cab is a huge waste of money (and a decent cab might cost twice as much as the amp did!) - he'd be far better off buying a better bass amp. _________________ No chops, but great tone

Consider an Ampeg. Either an amp or a speaker. |

Hey, Bill, check out the little bass amps at the Shrine club in a couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure they're 12's, but we can find out who made 'em! |
