Looking to trade this P90 Gibson double 8 string Lap steel for a SD10 Pedal steel Guitar.(Name brand)
This is a ivory colored double 8 top ,with a pair of P90's and a three way switch, and triple volume and tone control. .
The switch was removed and there was a 500K pot, and a 250K pot. the pot code had the following numbers :LRC 61506895 and 6152632. the code on the switch was CRL 1452!
According to Gruhn's in 1952 these guitar's were made from Korina, and had two white P90's under neath the white covers. This guitar was played through a Bandit 65 and was very strong loud, and smooth. The sound was of the steel reminds
me of Don Helms hey day!
The tuners are the originals and after being lubed up they play like original tuners.
The jack plated is very much in demand also.
The case looks pretty good but is missing the badge that is usually glued to the upper case door. but i have seem around on the forum and other places.
The case is sort of rough, but is stable, One latch needs repair.
There is a serial number on the back where some of the numbers is hard to see. I might have to sand off part of the paint to find the ser. number! Any ideas?

I have owned two of these. One had a serial#, one didn't. No reason to look for one, really, as they were only made for a couple of years and the features on this one are consistent with a '52. Should mention that this instrument has been refinished, and the fretboards are not stock. (They do appear to be Gibson fretboards, however - similar to those found on the BR6).
The tone from those P90's is sweet... |

I have only had this guitar for a short time, but i agree with you that the tone is sweet. And it sounds great in any type of amp, no matter how big or small!
And the Ivory color and the Black base appear to look like standard colors.
But the P90's twin pair, have a remarkable sound for a twin 8 Gibson Guitar. I would like to trade it for a SD10 or a S10 steel guitar.
I might have to take cash if i cannot get a trade, but i will hang in there and wait for the trade for awhile! |

Doug,I am waiting for a S-10 or SD-10 Trade. If you change your mind, it will be here waiting for you.
Thanks for enquiring about the Gibson consolette Twin 8 P-90's.
I was playing a GFI-SD10 today, and the Gibson Twin 8/90's had the better sound between the two.. in my opinion!

By the way, if you strip off the hideous paint job, it might reveal a beautiful korina body made from the same chunks of wood as those 50's gibson explorers and flying v's-
Just a suggestion- I have a consolette and a grand console and dig the tone of the consolette's p90's more. |

Well the korina was sold saturday, to a player who fell in love with the tone.
I hated to see it go but, somebody got a heck of a steel.
