Is the "body" knob on the Evans amp a midrange control? I assume it is, but it does not sound like your typical midrage comtrol. It does not seem to get "honky" or muddy. In fact, I like it at about 5 or 6, something I usually do not do with other amps. I am new to Evans and I like what I hear! Mine has the Depth and Expand switches.
Any input would be appreciated. |

Curt: this is how the control is described on the Evans home page (link below), which seems consistent with how you describe your experience. I tend to keep mine set about 7 or 8.
BODY: Used to set the amount of midrange and darkness, this is a multi-function control that increases low mid-range tones while rolling off high frequencies. Located on top front panel.

Curt - What model of Evans amp are using? _________________ Lee, from South Texas - Down On The Rio Grande
There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

Curt, I have the "head-only" version of the E200, mine's from 1998, which I use with a separate cabinet. Great amp. |

Back when Derrell Stephens was building the FET-500, here is what he had to say about the "Body" control:
"This is a multi function control. It allows you to shape the input signal in preparation for introduction into the actual Bass, Treble, Expand and Depth circuits. With the Body control set at 5 it is pretty close to flat (no effect). With the Body control set at 5, turn the control in the clockwise direction. As you get to 6 and 7 area you notice you are keeping the mid range you had and getting more lows (warmth). From the 7 - 10 area you will keep the lower mids and roll off the highs while at the same time pull in more rich lows. This control works just the opposite for the other side of the control."
I don't know if the circuit stayed the same in later models or not, but perhaps this will help.

Thanks Lee! That makes since, because as I turn up the "body" it does sound warmer, and warmer! I assumed it was just a "mid" control, but it is a very useful control. I guess I am finally waking up to the wonderful world of Evans!
Someone put the coffee on! |
