I just heard Mark Chestnut singing this classic song.
I beleive it's from the late 80's when those break-out artist started.

Cool! I love those songs! Smile

That tune brings back some good memories. It was one of the first songs I learned the steel parts from. Coincidentally, Paul had an instruction course that taught his parts in that song. It was then that I recognized Paul as an artist and have since spent a lot of time studying his work. That was in the early nineties when I started playing. Thanks, Theresa, for mentioning that tune.

By the way...another song from that era that brings back similar memories is Alan Jackson's "Don't Rock the Jukebox."

Great singing by Mark and great song choice, he's one of my favorite country singers. I've tried to buy every CD he puts out to support him. I want to buy his lastest! Smile

Mark Chesnutt's 2004(?) CD "Savin'the Honky Tonk" is also real nice - lots of Paul Franklin steel and more of Mark's traditional country sound that's just made for "longnecks and honkytonks" Smile

I'm lucky enough to play regularly with a guitar player (in multiple bands with him) that does this song and also "Old Country" by Mark. Pauls playing on Mark's records is just awesome.

Mark is one of my favorites as well. Saw him at Billy Bob's in January. Great Show! Such a shame he lost his major contract because he didn't want to play their game. "Politics" you gotta love it.
He moved his cd release to june from his original april date.

I, like Charlie, was in a band, (once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away,) that opened for Mark at the Troubadour in L.A. Great band, great show. A hugely underrated artist, IMO.

good genuine country tune....lends itself to some fine steel guitar as previously proven on the recording.

I loved it, learned it, and use it every chance I get. Too bad we don't get to hear this music much on modern radidio anymore. Oh Well

i just gotta add.......
the writer of this song, the late bobby hardin, from england, arkansas, or might near there, pitched the song for a couple of years. his passion was for george jones to cut it. jones eventually turned it down, said it needed a last verse and would cut it if he could write the verse or if bobby would write better 'nuther verse.
bobby had been a writer of hit's in the 60's & 70's
and was sure this was the one he had been looking for, but, music row was changing and the young guns that make the call's wouldn't give the nod.
bobby declined and just by fate gave in for a cut on an unknown/no label artist with a back pocket deal a dimple and a fresh voice. finally....his biggest hit.
thank you bobby hardin..."too cold at home"
oddly home was good because he had written a hit for loretta lynn, titled "home".
to celebrate the #1, he named his yacht after that song. the royalty check bought the yacht.
trivia.................

Theresa, "Too Cold At Home" was Mark's first single, released in 1990.

Check out that CD and you'll find no fewer that 5 #1's.

    Too Cold At Home
    Your Love Is a Miricle
    Brother Jukebox
    Broken Promise Land
    Too Good A Memory

At least I think those were all #1's. So was "Friends in Low Places", but for some other singer. Laughing
