Hello all -
Quite possibly moving to Switzerland sometime in the near future. I'm here now.
What do I need to convert a Webb to 220-230V @ 50Hz? Options I've come across include:
- replace the PT,
- determine whether the existing PT has multiple taps and re-wire (it's home; I don't know),
- use an external step up/down transformer. Here's a link to a possible transformer:
http://www.amazon.com/Seven-Star-Ste.../dp/B000AY72DO
Does this look reasonable for the job?
Is there likely to be noise associated with running this?
Is it safe to run another (low power) unit off of one transformer?
Finally: I also have a '65 Vibrolux Reverb that I would like to bring over as well. Any thoughts on the specific requirements of this guy?
Any (helpful) comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Steve

use an external step up/down transformer.
that's what i use to run my PV Nashville 1000 & Hilton VP here in Europa
works fine - no probs
ted nesbitt in ireland can help you on installing a transformer inside the amp
a few Brit's had that mod done on their PV Nash 1000s
i sent you an email Steve

Without knowing more of the specs for both the primary and secondary circuits for this transformer, I'd be leery to purchase this and plug my amps into it. See if you can get more specifications on this xformer prior to purchase. |

Don - I've checked a bunch of sites that sell/mfg these kinds of transformers, and I can find nothing substantial about the specs - certainly nothing about the primary/secondary circuits.
I think these things will probably handle the voltage with no problem, but I still wonder about going from 60Hz to the Euro 50 Hz and if that has any effect on performance, safety, or tone. |

I would suggest that you contact Ted also, as he is the one that has made this conversion in the past. I would surely trust his judgment before I would some retailer on amazon.com
Good luck and keep us posted |

Thanks. For what it's worth, I've been told that the company that makes the transformer I cited as an example is one of the larger and better manufacturers of step up/down transformers. I'll consider hollering at Ted, and I sure do appreciate your suggestion not to rely on Amazon for electronics advice. ![Oh Well](images/smiles/icon_ohwell.gif) |
