I got to see "The Possum" last night.Great show as usual.George had trouble with his ear monitors but kept on singing like the pro he is.His steel player, "tom,,,," (I can`t remember his secound name) was great. The opening acts were Jason Byrd and THE ROYS. Jason is a great singer and did a great job, just him and another guy on two acoustics.THE ROYS were also great and had a steel player by the name of "TOMMY BUTLER".Another great player. Two steel players in one night.Did I mention I had a good time. I went to school with LEE ROY. And I once worked with THE ROYS bus driver SERGE .TOMMY if you read this ask SERGE about his nikename "water Buffalo" |

I saw ole George back in Jan in Knoxville and in Pigeon Forge last summer. He will always be my all time favorite country singer. Most of his songs just have to have a steel. It doesn't get any better.

Chris,
I hope he shows up. "The Pro He Is" didn't at any of the three times I've gone out of my way to hear him.

From what I heard you don`t need no free licks On one song I thought I heard a dobro and when I looked up it was youre steel. Do you have a dobro simulator? Sounded real good.Keep up the good work. |

Thanks again David for the nice complements. I can never have too many of Tom's licks. I try and pick his brain everytime we get to work together. Tom is such a great guy and you wont find a better picker or a nicer person. I think he needs to be in the ISGHOF. He has certainly given his life to COUNTRY MUSIC and steel guitar. The dobro sound was a match bro. I usually use a dobro when we are on our own shows so I can get up and run around wireless but its just alot less gear to deal with when we are with George. Lee seems to be satisfied with the sound I get out of it. I didnt realize just how much it really did the job til I heard a recording (board tape) of us covering Mercury Blues. It was a nice surprise. |

Went to the George Jones concert in St. John's Newfoundland last night... best performance you're ever likely to witness from a man nearly 80. Tom Killen is such a wonderful player.... nailed every note! |

George Jones is Mr. Country Music.
Tom Killen is a good Old Missouri Boy we get to claim him and he's been with George for a long time now.
I was with a band that opened for them in 1987 and Tom was with George then.
GOD bless you!

George does seem to be having a lot of fun on stage these days. I saw him last summer at the Ohio State Fair with Merle.
Tom Killen is a swell guy and enjoys showing that Sho-Bud to fellow steelers he meets on the road.
I've seen George a few times, and the first time I saw him it was Haggard who was the no-show. _________________ HagFan

I was sitting in traffic the other day behind a big SUV with a license plate "NO SHOW 2". I passed it and sure enough it was "the Possum" himself behind the wheel; he definitely has a sense of humor about his old reputation! |

Pete, things like that can only happen in Nashville.
I saw the same show Trevor saw last night. Just great. My favourite quote of the night was:
"Why is it that no one sings the good ole' drinking songs anymore? And why is that no one sings the good ole' cheatin' songs anymore? It's all still goin' on, you know."
He was very outspoken about the state of country music right now. He had an opener, Jason Byrd, who was classic country. Great vocalist. He sang a few with George.
I got to speak with Tom Killen after the show. I even sat at the Sho-Bud for a little pickin'. Great action and feel to that '73 Pro II. Tom's such a great and supportive guy, and amazing picker with an arsenal of licks a mile long. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Is Tom Killen the same steel player George had a few years back when he did those "George Jones Shows" on TNN? If so he was playing a black LeGrande but I always liked how he played, very tasteful and never overbearing. Maybe it's not the same person though.... |

Scott; yes that was Tom.
I put together that Pro~II for him right around that time...and he hasn't touched his Emmons since.
He loves the Sho~bud and doesn't really want to play anything else anymore.
You can't meet a nicer guy than Tom Killen; Great player and great Person.

I have learned a lot about George today.. I had someone here who knows a lot about him.. A steelie and a good mate of the writer of the song CHOICES??,,,...... VERY VERY interesting stuff ...and he was in the studio at the time it was recorded.......? and at the Alan Jackson live TV show where he started with a line of POP A TOP and then into CHOICES...then walked off stage.. Grammy winning stuff,,?
He will always be the greatest in my view..
I would love to see him live,,,amazing... |

Thanks Ricky. I'm sure Tom sounds great on his Bud because he sure did on his Emmons.
I was able to see George live up here at Foxwoods Casino about 5 or 6 years ago. He was amazing! When I was "young" (and a Rocker, long before I got into Country music), I saw a lot of great concerts...Zappa, The Kinks, David Bowie, Queen, Jethro Tull....but I enjoyed seeing GJ at this little venue as much if not more than any of those. He is truly a living legend. |
