Don, I have a tab of what Jerry plays on that, if that would help.

Would someone please expand on this, with the chords shown over the lyrics.

The lyrics are:

The sea and me keep lonely company,
The tides have come and gone just like your love for me.
The tradewinds say that you'll come back someday,
I think they're sorry 'cause they helped take you away.

Gone are the moments on dark sandy beaches
Where we held our secret rendezvous.
The brakers play on coral sands that say
We'll bring her home again, the wind the sea and me.

...and who wrote it ?

Jerry Byrd wrote it.
There was a LONG discussion about the chords on the forum last year.

That's a great backing, Basil. I've been playing along with it, putting the vocal part in with the New Yorker. I should record it and send you a copy for amusement. Very Happy

Interestingly the part Jerry Byrd does on the Marty Robbins record is overdubbed if you listen closely you'll hear the harmony (Second Line) on the steel parts in a different stereo position to the steel guitar melody line..
Well, this is JB obviously NON Pedal and just as obviously overdubbed for the harmony lines (as he invariable did) :-
