Starting this Wednesday the 16th, Gabes Lounge in Nashville, will be having a picker's night with me, Randle Currie, Brian Glenn, Rod Janzen, Bart Hansen and more. Low drink prices. Starts at 7:30 untill 11:30. I was told that Gabes is giving it 6 wks to see if they can get a crowd. Come out and play. Randy

I sure hope this takes off. Some of the best psg playing I have ever heard was at Gabes. It sounds like a great crew, good luck fellas!

The music was good! The head singer knows lots of material and the guest singers were good as well! Randel and Jay Andrews sounded good. The only unfortunate matter was that it turned out to be a late crowd. They didn't really start piling in until about 10 pm. So, 2½-hrs. of good music was missed by the later arrivals! It's a nice friendly place to spend an evening! Maybe next week they'll have an earlier crowd to help soak up the high volume!

I had more fun than I've had in a long time and everyone really impressed me!
Jay plays better every time I hear him and his tone was just awesome and Randy well what can I say about Randy he was great as usual probably the best drummer around or at least in the top 3.
Everyone in the band was on fire and seemed to have a great time. Bart really sang his butt off and Randall was just awesome. The bass player was on the money and knew just where to play in the pocket. I think his name was Brian.
Eddie Curtis and his posse hehe (his sons Daniel and James) just played up to their old mans reputation. Eddie played for Jimmy C and Merle for a long time I can't remember when I've enjoyed myself so much.
I haven't been out for a while and all I can say is WOW what a great band!!!!
Thanks guys for so much good music and fun! I know I have left a lot of great pickers out due to my poor memory but I also have to mention Ike from Roberts down on Broadway. I understand he's one of the few country bands left down there and he sang great.
John B. I sure wish you would have introduced yourself to me I've always wanted to meet you. The next time please do.
I have to mention a new group by the name of (Jypsi) most of them were there and got up as well and really kicked tail. Jay had just been telling me about them the night before and they didn't let me down.
If I missed any of you guys please forgive me it got pretty late pretty early LOL!
I can't wait until i can jam down there with them. I'll be able to soon and trust me as soon as I can I'll be jamming with Bart and the gang. Bart asked me to jam but I didn't feel comfortable with it so I decided wait until I did. Thank you Bart for asking me to pick with you.

Bob; I'm afraid I didn't know who you were! This is just a stab in the dark, but; were you the one in the Power~Chair? I was the big guy with the long gray beard and “The Steel Guitar Forum” Logo on my cap, sitting right there at the end of the bar!

Yea John, that was me I'm sorry we missed connecting but next time I'll know who to look for. I really had a ball that night. I do remember seeing you but just never put it together. I did figure you were a steel picker though
If we happen to cross paths again there or any place and I still don't see ya please let me know so we can tell a few big whopp..... oops I mean some old stories....... see you down there next time I hope.

I've heard a lot of good stories about the jammin' they used to do at Gabes. Glad you got it up and running again Randy! Hopefully it's still happenin' when I come up for a week later this year. I'll sit in!

Gabes used to be a real cool Honky Tonk. When I lived in Nashville and wasn't on the road I'd go out and sing lots n lots of shuffles and usually have the pleasure of being backed up by greats like Cal Sharp and Richard Bass. Those were great days when the GREAT late Ron Sweet would be on Bass guitar and our buddy BIG Bob Martin would be a pickin and a grinin with us along with fine players like Mike Sweeney, Dave Robbins, Mike Cass, Jim Unger, Bob Hempker, Lynn Owsley, Bob Watson, Jay Andrews some of which would be playing next door at the Broken Spoke and would stop over on break. I remember one night I had my picture taken with Tanya Tucker sitting on my lap there amongst a huge pyramid of Budweiser cans on our table. After it changed hands I know it went to some awful Garth Brooks wanna be that changed the music format to this top 40 frat daddy american idol country dog crap that we now know as top 40 country music. I hope the format has changed back to the way it was because it was a great place so if it's real country again ya'all go out and support this get together! A lot of the nights I was there over 5 or 6 years there were also some Piano players that played all those great shuffles and ballads including Denny Fast and now and then Willie Rainsford. I also on occasion would run into Norma Jean who was an original I believe on the Porter Wagoner Show. I know I'll forget to leave someone out but in those days (nights) we drank a lot a Budweiser and hung out with friends Tracy Lawrence, Keith Gattis, Daryle Singletary, and many many more. Another good night was when Ken Osmond showed up at Gabes and shook hands and took some pictures. Ken played Eddie Haskell on the "Leave it to Beaver" TV Show and was a real nice guy! It was a great time that will probably not come around again.
