I was looking at the original PP patent today and noticed something peculiar- check out the changer cross-section page at the keyhead (Fig. 2)!Click here, google patents

Interesting....was the keyhead on some sort of a swivel?
That's what it says in the patent description. Perhaps they decided not to incorporate that into the production model, but hold the patent, just in case.
Wonder if that would've worked? If they had included that device, the history of the Emmons guitar might have been very different. |

I asked Buddy about that in Knoxville one time. He said they wanted to include that as part of the original patent even though they maybe would never build them that way. That way they had all the bases covered in one fell swoop rather than having to go back and apply for additional patents. That T-bone on the left was capable of a lot of things. Splits would have been easily tuned. It would also allow for much more complex setups without nightmarish rod work.
