I've been experimenting with adding another change to the C pedal which is lowering the 12th string E to D. It's very usable especially when using the B pedal and working off the 9th string D as the root. It gives you a nice low D root note with a V right above it followed by a VI and then another root. You can do some interesting low string single note stuff in the key of D (and other positions) using this one.
I tune my 9th string to C# and have my 4th string E to F# on pedal 8 (for right foot use) so I actually don't have a C pedal but it would work well if you did. My pedal raises the 9th string to D while lowering the 12th to D.
Another thing I use it for is when one singer I work with does Marty Robbins' "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" I put on a little distortion and do the ride in the key of E using that pedal to flatten the E and then let off it and the rest of the notes are right in line.
Having been a guitarist for so long, I can't help thinking about steel guitar things through a guitarist's perspective!...........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Jerry's ext. E9 is giving me plenty of food for thought for when I buy a 12-string guitar for myself.
I'm definitely going to stay with a D note in the 9th string position, but his set-up (which he was kind enough to send me a while back) generally indicates that he and I have some similar trains of thought.
I've yet to decide on which guitar to order - I'll have time to ponder this once I'm exiled to ND for my Summer gig in a few weeks time ( )..... _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

I have that change (low E to D). It doesn't interfere with any of the normal "C Pedal" stuff. I've found it to be really useful. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
