Could any folks familiar with these two amps give me sort of a comparison of or contrast between them?
Especially interested in tonal characteristics.
Thanks,

Hi Don,
this is not the exact info you asked for, but for what it's worth, I use an Evans SE150 (I'm pretty sure it's a 150 and not a 200) with a 15" speaker in a closed-back enclosure with a round port in the center of the back. It is a great amp, it is warm, it can be bright, it is plenty loud and really cuts through at gigs, and it's very light and easy to deal with. It is no problem being heard over the SVT stack, Bandmaster, and Showman amps that my bandmates use. I used to gig with a Twin Reverb, and while the Twin has more twang than the Evans, the Evans actually cuts through the band better and is louder than the Twin (my Twin is 85 watts through two 12"). I have a Peavey Session 400 that I like, but haven't tried the 112. Evans amps are really good, I would try one if you have the chance. |

I have them both in stock and only ever use the Peavey 112, weight, tone, size, service, beauty,(mine is tweed) and of course, the cost.
In my personal collection of amps, I have Standel, Fender Twins(vintage), Evans, Webbs etc.
When I go to make money, it's the P-112 that goes with me.
Don Davis, if you'd get up here you could see all this for yourself! Don't make me have to come down there!!!
Besides, you have Mike Brown behind you for great service!
Your buddy,
Bobbe |

Hey Bobbe,
Small world! I actually have one on order from you right now! It's been on order since Feb. but Michelle from your place called a few weeks back and said it (and all other NV 112's) were hung up till mid-April because of parts. Anyway, had to special order because of custom tolex and grillcloth.
Reason for asking about tone comparison to the Evans was because of someone I know raving about the Evans JE150. Sounds like the Peavey will only be better-can't wait! |
