Hi Rick Nicklas, you asked me for this so its for you, (and anyone else who may find it interesting)...

PS... It's the only way I'll ever get close to Doug Jernigans speed pickin' !!

PPS.. DON'T over-use this effect, once a night in one lead break is enough..

David:
As often happens when one is shown one thing it becomes apparent that it applies to other songs. For years I wondered what settings the Desert Rose guitarist, John Jorgenson, used to get the effect he did on the duet with Emmy Lou Harris. I now know. And by the way delay or not you are a very well accomplished player.....Peter

Les Paul was the first one I heard do that on some 50's recordings; Albert Lee was the ONLY one I ever heard who could use it more than once a night and not make it sound like a gimmick; Ricky Skaggs' version of Albert's "Country Boy", using both delay and a speeded-up, double-time guitar part made it sound like nothing BUT a gimmick.

Like any other effect, if you can use it and it feels like part of the music it's great; if it sounds like an effect just for its' own sake it's being misused.

David makes it fit perfectly.

FWIW for most players trying to learn how, a 300ms delay, with the "bounce" exactly the same volume as the original note and NO repeats will get you there. It takes a while to learn - some players can do it instinctively, while for others it's a long learning curve. It's tough thing to pull off live, as the delay setting has to be precisely set to the song, and if the band speeds up or slows down you are D-E-A-D...

I'll share one thing I've learned about technique - doing something one way all the time sorta guarantees you'll never learn to do it any other way. Cool

Hey David. I just got back from our Kansas Steel Guitar Jam/Meeting. I appreciate you explaining this effect and how to use it. It is definately the best birthday present I have ever received. I will have to watch this real slow and just hope that by practice it may click in. I use a different delay unit but hope I can achieve something similar.
Thanks so much David. Very Happy

Thanks, look at the drummer one again!,

SO...Has anyone had a go at this yet?, there's been lots of lookers and not many comments..

It's good fun, if not over-used, and if you get it right..

That's cool David. Thanks for posting. I wonder if anyone has had success with the delay on a PODxt. I would like to hear about their settings.
