As a foot-note to the 'other' Everly Brothers thread in 'Steel Players'.....

There has been much richly-deserved praise for the Time Jumpers' version of this song with Dawn Sears' lovely vocal, but I'd like to mention a much older cut on this tune.

I'd never heard it before 1972 when the Everlys did an album with Chet Atkins for RCA called 'Pass The Chicken And Listen'. 'Sweet Memories' is one of my favourite tunes on this LP - the melody is a perfect foil for their lovely harmonies, and Don E.'s solo passages are wonderful.

The 'Jumpers have fiddles playing that little turn-around section, but this version features mandolin. It really is worth a listen if you can.

I guess when you get down to it that it's just an especially great song.....

Other good tracks are:
'Woman Don't You Try To Tie Me Down'
'Husbands and Wives' (GREAT Roger Miller song that suits the Evs to a 'T'!)
'A Nickel For The Fiddler'
...and many more!

I Have never heard that one Roger,in fact I was unaware of Sweet Memories until I bought the Time Jumpers DVD.
Another geat Don Everly is brother jukebox, his rendering of "Yesterday just passed My way again"
has great feeling.

Who wrote Sweet Memories?
I seem to recall Don Gibson singing this song and needless to say, he was his usual soulful self, and gave me goose bumps.

Yes, Mickey Newbury wrote the song.
Jeff Newman in his Woodshedding series said that Willie wrote it but I think he meant that he sang the song.
