I routed out the opening and moved the pickup slightly to line it up with the strings, and put on a set of Jagwires. It made a world of difference, at least to my ears. I'm pretty new to lap steel, but I uploaded a short MP3 to show the tone, which I think is pretty good for $99.

Enjoyed it!
Both tone and playing are very nice.
Man, I wish I's bought one of the SX's when Rondo had 'em last.

Thanks every one. I was very unhappy with the sound before, but now I think it's not bad. For country songs I can get a lot more highs with the tone control. With the way the bridge is made that was the hardest string change I've ever done.

That's sounds really nice Howard. Is that you strumming too?

Here's a pic of the bridge I put on my SX. It's a top loader and much easyer to string up. Had to fill and redrill for the bridge studs.

The background is BIAB using a style that b0b made and posted a while back. He did a good job.

Enjoyed that, Howard. Some buy that Rondo! And nice playing! I thought I was "pretty new to lap steel"- now I'll need to find some other way of putting it. Oh Well

Howard, the next time you change strings throw on one of these LP JR bridges, it's the best 14 bucks you'll ever spend

http://store.guitarfetish.com/lespajuwrinb.html

It will allow you to lower the strings and sstring changes will be a bit easier because the bridge is not as fat.

Great tone and playing by the way.

Howard, I enjoyed your rendition. The SX is far better than the other budget lap steels in recent years. Since I put palm levers on mine it's spoiled me for the average lap steel. I just wish it were 8-string.

When they're in stock again I'll bolt two together to make a two-neck console and convert them to 8-string.

Thanks for sharing that Howard. Sounds lovely!

I had the opportunity to try a Rondo last week. The pickup had been swapped out for a Seymour Duncan. The guitar played and sounded surprisingly good.

Dave, where did you find that bridge? It looks like a good alternative. The Les Paul Jr bridge looks promising too.
