I suspect there are other steel players in my situation. It is very uncomfortable to have to wear narrow shoes to play steel. Does any of the newer steel guitars on the market have pedals that may be wider and or spaced further apart. I would like input from some of you larger steel players like myself. If I ware a comfortable shoe I mesh down 2 pedals at a time.

Are you talking about 3 or 4 pedals, or 8? If its just 3 or four, all you need is a few hours, and some tools. spread the foot pedals the desired space you want them, on the pedal bar, then just move the shaft, crank, and stop over the same amount so the rods still come down straight. You don't even have to clip the rods shorter, just leave them stick out that extra 1/2 inch to 1 inch. When you drill the new holes for the mounting of the shaft, crank, and stop, just dont drill too far. tape the drill bit so you only go in the wood up to the tape, to the proper depth. Then retune all the pulls. Good luck.
I just got done moving my left knee levers to the left, and it was no big deal. What a ease it is now.

Bill,

I wear 12 EEE and play a Rains guitar. I have never had a problem with any of the guitars I've owned. Now when I was a beginner I had that problem but just had to train myself to watch what I was doing. I can wear cowboy boots or tennis shoes or whatever and I'm fine.
