With all the guys moving to TX, I guess I would begin to even things out. Next month I am re-locating to San Luis Obispo, CA to manage the family winery there (no jokes about the fox guarding the henhouse). This is not an easy decision to make, after 24 years in DFW. Most of my family is out there however, and I've been going there for 30 years so it's already been sort of a second home. They have been really successful over the years and in a beautiful area, only 5 min from the beach. One stipulation is that I get to come back to DFW often as the kiddos still live here with their families (and to pick.) Smile

I've worked with some of the bands out there over the years (SLO and Bakersfield) and hope to be able to do so on a regular basis (always had a blast). As most folks around here know, I don't mind driving a bit, so I'll probably try to pick a little around CA if anyone calls.....

I am really going to miss the quantity & quality of live music as well as the musician friends I've made over the years here. There are enough memories for 2 lifetimes and the opportunities here have enabled me to play with some incredible people, something I could have never imagined when I moved here in '84.

Thank you to everyone who hired or referred me, over the years.....

Danny

Good luck with your move, Danny. Texas's loss is CA's gain. Is the wine sold outside of CA? Mebbe I can get some around here and tip a glass in your honor?

Danny congrats...although I never got to meet you in person I heard a lot about you from other steelers in this area. I also saw your daughter and her future husbands wedding announcement (the Naccarato name is not too common) in the local paper a few months ago...California is beautiful and I hope all the best for you. It's going to be Texas' loss and California's gain, dang it.....

Danny,

Wow,I can't believe I'm reading this cuz it really saddens me deeply to hear you won't be around the hood anymore.

Is it cuz I stopped calling or whut?

It was always a great surprise playing gigs over the last 24 years and occasionally looking up and seeing your smiling face in the audience.

I'm pretty up on wines so a box of that Carte Blanch stuff would really help me get past your leavin if you could help out an old pal.

I'd take one of them extra steels you got layin around too since you'll be more busy mashin grapes than pedals and besides, you don't need to be luggin that heavy thing to Calaforneyea.

I really will miss ya and at the same time I envy you because I've always loved California and would live there if I had the money.

After you get settled, keep us informed on what all is going on with you.

Danny. I have some close friends that live in Atascadero, just up the road from SLO.

I'm sure you're looking forward to living in that area, as I always found it to be really pretty, and a great location near the Pacific coast.

Good luck in the winery management business. I'll do what I can to help the wineries along... Very Happy One bottle at a time!

Danny, you'll be about 15-20 minutes from Morro Bay, one of the most scenic little fishing communities on the West Coast. If we had a lot of murders here. you might think it was Cabot Cove, but we don't. You're going to love it.

Jimbeaux - They continue to get qualified in each state, so if PA is not on the list, it will be Smile

David - Looking forward to it.... Thanks

Mark, Howard, Bill, Dick, Son - Thanks much... The thought of leaving here is really difficult.

Tommy - The old Mullen is on it's way this week.

Gary - Thanks. I've spent a lot of time over the years in Atascadero. 2 of my sister's have ranches in Creston, which is usually where I stay when I'm out there. Great area !!

Terry - Thanks. Look forward to meeting you. Ummm....we getting a good price? SmileSmile

Gary - Thanks as well. The family there used to run the tugs out of Morro Bay, when they'd bring the tankers into Cayucos. For a while back in the 90's you might remember "Central Coast Cruises". They were running day cruises up and down the coast as well.. My mom is in Los Osos.... What amazes me is it can be 110 in Paso/Creston/Atascadero and 20 min away in Morro Bay it's 68, during the summer..

Thanks so much guys.

Welcome Danny. I have family in SLO and Cambria. It's nice there as you know. I thought of moving there myself at one time. I also work in the industry in the Bay Area printing wine labels for many California wineries.

Hope to meet you and hear you pick!

Hey Danny, SLO is a 4 hour drive from/to L.A.

Consider yourself invited to next year's L.A. jam.

Hey Dan thanks... I saw where y'all were playing there and that's right before I get out here for good. You've got a great primo gig with Eleven Hundred Springs. I've known Matt since the early 90's and he was a great singer/player, and only a kid then. Dang he's done well. Last time I saw the gang was right before you hooked up with them. You've got to be loving that gig and I'm glad for ya. Tell him hi and please stay in touch. Let me know when you're back out again.

Hey Danny, I love the central coast, and so will you!

My 3 tips for happiness in SLO county:
1.) Clam Chowder at the Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach

2.) A cool afternoon drink to live music at Harry's Bar.... across the street from the Splash... live music begins at 3:00 in the afternoon on weekends (oh, ever so civilized! Smile

3.) Dinner at Gesuppie's italian cafe. This is also in Pismo, but I hear there is one in SLO now as well.... no lie, you're gonna die... it's that good Smile

Hey keep us informed as to your gigs... and an advanced notice... in Sacramento, the first Weekend in Oct. (Thu-Sun.) the California Western Swing Association has it's "Hall of Fame Jubilee"... you will be amazed at the great C6th players showing up for this one... a real steel guitar fest.

Well, that's it from my central CA travel log Smile

So glad to have a chance to meet you! I'm a 12 string universal kid too. Smile

As a former Fort Worth guy myself, I wish you the best of success with the move. I've got family in Santa Maria (close to SLO)and get over that way as often as possible. The wine country is beautiful and T is looking forward to doing one of those tasting tours soon Smile

What d'ya mean? He's trading one kind of picking for another! Just picking grapes, now. Winking

But seriously, welcome to the coast. I don't get down SLO way too often, but if you play any shows up in the Bay Area, let us know when and where!

Best regards,
