I'm overwhelmed. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a simple message mentioning that I was about to write another check to cover Forum expenses, and asked if anyone wanted to help. The response was far beyond anything I would have anticipated.
Donations since that message have totaled $4987! This, along with the regular catalog sales and such, will keep the Forum afloat for the rest of the year. All I can say is "Thank you, thank you, thank you."
Donations ran the range from $10 to $500 (wow!). Most were about $25. I also received many letters of encoragement, and many people said they would support an annual Forum dues if necessary.
A friend pointed out that I could have bought a new Sierra or Anapeg with the money I put into the Forum last year. Not that I'm complaining - the work is very rewarding - but it had never occured to me that you members would be willing and able to provide full financial support for this site. It turns out I was wrong.
So, I now see that this isn't "my" Forum at all. It truly belongs to all of you. I feel honored to serve as its custodian.

That's great news b0b! I've learned a lot here on the forum and I've discovered how much I did not know about steel guitar. I'm happy to be a part of the forum and happy to contrubute financially to it. Thanks for all of your dedicated work b0b!

I love this Forum and was more than glad to lend financial support. I've not only learned a great deal more on the steel, but computers, recording, tuning etc., and being a better communicator [or trying, anyway].
b0b, as many others have expressed, all you had to do was ask.

That is great that you won't have to worry about supporting the forum from your own pocket for at least several months . I'm glad to have had the opportunity to help support the forum in a small way $$ wise .
I still have the " mind- set" that you should consider an annual reasonable subscription fee to belong to this forum . Surely there has to be a way to do that with out too much "rig-a-ma-roe" . I hope you are not upset at me for my continued mind set but I still believe you should not have to be worried about dipping into your own pocket to keep this fine forum up and running .
From what I have read , there are a lot of the members willing to support such a fee .
Best of everything to you and thanks again for all you do regarding this forum .

b0b, this forum has made it possible for me to even have a comeback,not that I made much of a comeback thats even worth mentioning, but at least I'm back in the fold and primarily due to the forum and it's members.

You all have great ideas. As far as charging, how about selling 500-750 "Premium" memberships that would cost the buyers $40 or $50 a year, but as someone else mentioned they would support the forum as well as the education of promising young artists--hopefully young artists that we will begin to see on the forum more often.
The forum could offer a tiered membership, according to what you wanted to pay per year--$10.00 to $50 or whatever, and there would have to be litle incentives for members (sheet music, CDs, ? contests?). Also, we could still keep it free for basic priveleges for those who just want to surf, but not contribute. No need to run people off. (Now if we could only get membership up to 5000, with 1000 paying dues, b0b could hire someone part-time to help him and create a non-profit out of the deal) I know that its too much work, but it sounds good anyway!

Got your note, B0b, thanks. TO you and all, what I've gotten from this Forum, in addition to all the information and whatnot referenced by others, is that it has put me back in touch with steel players that were very good to me 35 years ago when I started playing, but had lost touch with over the years. As they gradually came to be Forum members and contributors themselves, I was able to pick up friendships that I had given up on.
That's truly a marvelous thing. THanks again.

After my last burnout, when I quit playing, had it not been for me accidentally finding the forum, I would probably never started playing again.

I'm happy to hear that your problems are solved for this moment.
However I personally think that $5000 is disappointing fot 3000 members. Maybe I have no right to judge but if everyone would donate as little as $5 .......

| Hello b0b, Maybe this will serve as a wake up call and make people realize that there are constant expenses to be paid by someone(b0b). Maybe to keep it easy for you those who want to can send a few bucks on a regular basis and keep things floating. Some can pay more than others due to personal finances, however, if funds get low...holler out HELP and I'm sure the forum will respond.As we should. | b0b, what can I add but thanks! Contributing was really the least I could do in light of all I've learned here as well as the friendships I've made (let alone the bandwidth I've taken up). I've recently checked out some other musical forums out there and was amazed at how infantile and counter-productive many of the posts were. This place is truly a treasure and in my experience, unlike any other site on the web. This speaks volumes about both the quality of the members and perhaps even more, about your skill and dedication in managing this site, b0b. I remember some of the more difficult decisions you've had to make along the way. Thanks again! |
