Ok, I finally made it home after 30 days on the road. This is a tale of two great stops.
I want to thank Jerry Braswell and Larry Moore for inviting me to the steel guitar show in Douglasville, GA. What a great show! So much outstanding local talent; Larry Moore, Bill Ferguson, Jerry, Charlie Vaughn, and many more, almost overwhelmed me. In addition to the to the locals, Herby Wallace and Tommy Dodd did outstanding sets. Tommy had just come in off of three shows in two days and was beat, but still did great. If you get to hear him and his group you will be in for a real treat when the young man Brad sings. I also had the pleasure of meeting Neil Flanz.
This was the first of what I think will be many annual shows. It's worth the trip!
Next stop was Nashville. Finally met Bobbe, Brandy, Larry and Vic in person. Everything good that has ever been said about Bobbe is true! What a pleasure it was for me to sit and talk about steel guitar and many things other than music with Bobbe.
And what would a trip to Nashville be without spending time with Smiley. He played tour guide for me. What a blast it was to hear him get invited to sit in for a set at a couple of the clubs. One word of caution for those that may have the opportunity to ride with Smiley, HANG ON!
Thanks again to Jerry, Larry, Bobbe and crew, and Smiley.

Allen, It was a pleasure to meet you and it was great that you were able to come by and enjoy the music. We do , as many small towns, have a lot of great talent that surrounds us. We are blessed with good steel players. For a person like me who loves steel guitar and happens to own one, it makes it a little easier to learn a new lick. I hope we are able to continue to have these shows. With local talent like Bill Ferguson, Larry Moore, Tim Hamilton, Tommy Dodd and a host of other good players we may be able to have another.Come see us anytime, we will be happy to see a new friend.

Hello Allen, It sure was nice to meet you at the Douglasville show. We are glad that you could be with us. We are always glad to see old friends and to make new ones. We do have a lot of GREAT local pickers and we do enjoy getting together when we can. This will be an ongoing event, we just have to sit down now and figure out when. Really appreciate your nice comments on the show and we hope that those that did not make it this time will be able to make the next one. Hope to see you again soon.
Your Friend,
Don |
