I just thought I would let every one know that I am still amazed with the "Mod" Tommy did on my Zum SD-10. I just added a 6th knee lever LKL2, kind of new to me but I think this will fill up my plate, unless I add pedal # 4 for Pauls pedal but that will end my additions. gary

Gary…
I enjoyed reading and agree with your posts regarding Tommy Young’s MaxTone modification. I can be counted among Tommy’s satisfied customers.
Several months ago I decided to study the PSG again, this time seriously. I purchased a used but unplayed Magnum ProSelect guitar from a recording studio. I wanted a modern, easy to play, maintenance-free guitar. The Magnum certainly satisfies those criteria. Soon I found myself wanting more “sound “ to go with the playability, however. I decided to send the Magnum to Tommy after doing some research and having read testimonials such as yours on the Forum.
Upon receiving my modified guitar from Tommy I also was amazed by the sonic improvements. Prior to Tommy’s going through the guitar, it sounded rather dull. And it seemed to “run out of gas” above the tenth fret. The sound of the modified Magnum has a very complex bell-like clarity to it. The higher pitched strings in particular have an overtone infused harmonic richness to them. One could argue that some of this new harmonic richness can be attributed to the new Truetone pickups. Beyond the wonderful, rich new sound, the guitar suddenly was usable above the tenth fret. After Tommy’s working on the guitar it now has a sound –timbre and sustain – that is consistent from the first fret to the 24th. Notes ring nearly as long at the 22nd fret as they do at the second fret. But even more than “sustainability” ;>) the sonic character of the guitar is constant. It sounds like the same guitar all the way up the fretboard. For me this makes the guitar much easier and more enjoyable simply to play all the way up the fretboard and even way beyond the twelfth fret.
I do not know what Tommy did to achieve the above results. I do believe he has brought out the full potential of the Magnum. I had some friends over recently and played the guitar for them. They all remarked, “Wow, that’s beautiful.” That’s what I think whenever I hear or play a PSG. |

I'm certainly not trying to say that the mod isn't as "amazing" as people perceive it to be,but why can no one say what it is? |

I suggest that the mod and how it's done is a trade secret and I can accept that. _________________ The only thing better than doing what you love is having someone that loves you enough to let you do it.

RC. thanks for the asking, what i do is mechanical and I am in the process of getting a patent on it,so can't tell you what i do, at this time but you can be assured that it will not hurt anyone's guitar and it is absolutely none electrical, if I told you what i do then all of you would go to the local shop and or do it yourself..... nothing for all the time I have spent developing and testing it, I have made changes to it many times and on different guitars it is different because off the way they are structurally built sorry but all of these guy's can tell you they dearly love the tone after I get thru crystal clear high's plus clean lows from the first fret to the 24th or more on some with better sustain all the way from end to end.
Chris---- I certainly hope that you use that file on your guitar and not any of mine but if it needs a file in a critical place that needs smoothing or some stock removed then I will certainly use it as many of the builders use them when needed --as in deburring & etc.to smooth out rough places before using sandpaper then polishing
LAST IT IS A TRADE SECRET FOR SURE AND HOPE IT STAY'S THAT WAY
ALAN---- IF YOU READ ALL THAT I HAVE STATED THEN YOU WILL KNOW AS MUCH AS THEY DID BEFORE I DID THE WORK ON THEIR GUITARS AND I HAVE TAKEN SOME OF THE GUITARS THAT I HAVE MODIFIED TO ST. LOUIS TO THE CONVENTION. SEVERAL AS IN I WAS SO BUSY THAT I COULD'NT EAT FROM THE TIME I GOT THERE TILL THEY SHUT IT DOWN AT NIGHT AND THATS HOW MANY PLAYED THOSE GUITARS OUT OF THE MANY THAT PLAYED THEM ONLY 2 THAT I CAN REMEMBER SAID THEY COULDN'T HEAR ANY DIFFERENCE IN THEIR GUITARS AND THOSE THAT WERE THERE AND IF YOU HAD HERD THEIR PLAYING THEN YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND WHY THEY COULDN'T TELL ANY DIFFERENCE I ALSO TOOK SOME GUITARS TO THE SUPER JAM IN NASHVILLE AND HAD A GREAT RESPONSE THERE ALSO, LOTS OF PLAYERS CHECKED THEM OUT AND I HAVE BEEN BUSY EVER SINCE --EXCEPT DURING MY SURGERY AND I HAVE SEVERAL WAITING NOW SO IF YOU LIKE YOUR GUITAR PLEASE KEEP IT STOCK, BUT IF YOU WANT IT TO HAVE THE BEST TONE THAT IT CAN POSSIBLY HAVE THEN GIVE ME A CALL WE WILL DISCUSS IT BECAUSE SOME GUITARS I HAVEN'T WORKED ON YET BUT WHO KNOWS SOMEDAY MAYBE I'LL GET AROUND TO MOST OF THEM HOPE THIS HELPS IN YOUR DECISION OR SATISFIES YOUR CURIOSITY WHICHEVER, MAYBE IF YOU GET TO ONE OF THE SHOWS YOU COULD STOP BY AND PLAY ONE OR TWO. I MISSED THE DALLAS SHOW BECAUSE OF BACK SURGERY BUT WILL BE IF """GOD"""WILLING AT THE GOSPEL STEEL SHOW IN NASHVILLE ALSO THE FULTON MISSISSIPPI SHOW AND OTHERS HOPEFULLY
