Im very new to the game, and i need a pedal steel i can play. I have an old sho-bud that i got through trading but i really want at least 4 knee levers and this one only has the one. it was a d-10 but has since been converted to a single neck. any way i was wondering if this marlen/peavey ad on craigslist is a good deal and if i should go for it. ive talked to the dude and he is firm on the price. can anyone tell me about the age of the marlen? thanks.

Jason,
I don't know anything about the Marlin steel, how ever there are lots of folks here that are very knowlegable about them and I'm sure they'll be along to answer any questions.
I do like Peavey equipment very well, I've had very good luck with all the Peavey amps I've had, and am currently using a Sessions 400 at this time.
Luck on your search for a steel, I'm sure some one will be along soon to talk about the Marlin.

| Upgrade the Bud if it is not a plastic coated Maverick. You would be much better off. |

| The amp is probably worth $400-$500, but the guitar, if it's got a single-finger (pull/release) changer, isn't one I'd recommend. |

Jason,
If you decide you want it get the seller to email you pictures of the changer,top, and bottom.if it looks like this, it is an all pull,one of the better changers. Like Donny says,stay away from the pull release.
Don't know what happened, the endplates aren't that dull, they are shiny.

I don't know anyone in your area. You can go to your nearest DHL office or Fedex and ship it to Ricky Davis in Houston TX, and he will dial it in for you. Meanwhile, email him some pics and he can scope it out for you. Ricky is THE best shobud tech, in my book. sshawaiian@austin.rr.com |

I play Marlen and have a Nashville 1000. As Mr. Hinson has stated, this amp can be bought for about $450 to $500 in new to near new condition. Mine was $475 in mint condition. The question is, is the Marlen on Craigs list worth the $1025 plus shipping, if you would have to pay that. My Marlen is an all pull changer, Aluminum neck, 3 pedals, 4 knees which I paid around $900 for. The steel on Craigslist does not have an aluminum neck and has the older style name plate. It may be an all pull changer, hard to tell, but I suspect it is push/pull. To a collector, the steel might be worth the asking price, but I would not pay that for it. (JMO) There has been a local fellow here with a Marlen D10 all pull aluminum, priced at $1000. I probably should call him. Is the Marlen playable, you bet, push/pull or all/pull. | also its worth noting the guy said he would sell just the steel for 1000 after i told him i already had a twin reverb. whether or not that comes with volume pedal he bought for it i dunno. |

| Why don't you start another thread titled "Identify this Marlen?" You will probably get a response from someone who knows exactly which model this is. Or do a search for Marlen in Pedal Steel, and Instruments for Sale. You may find a similar Marlin with pics of the changer. I think you'll have better luck with the former though! |
