hi all-

i've been playing a young-at-heart MSA Classic d-10 8x4 for a few months now, with white pups that appear to be glued down. they're mildly microphonic at this point, and they don't do much for the third string. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out with the following-

1-what are these pickups? do they generally date the guitar? i've never seen them before, and

2-how would one remove/replace them? does the fact that they're glued down indicate after market adjustments, or was this standard?

btw, the serial # is 2C129, if that's helpful.

thanks in advance- i know you guys are on it.

ASA ,have you tried the "search" option on the forum. Maybe try "PICK UP" or "MSA".Also have you tried to set youre amp different.I know my MSA was strange to me at first but with a minor adjustment I have her sounding good. As for information on youre steel, try a new post directed at "REECE ANDERSON".He is a great guy and usualy responds to MSA questions.Good luck. Very Happy

Thanks (merci?) for the advice David.

Nice to hear from a Maritimer- spent my first 24 years in Nova Scotia, but that was before my steel 'career.'

Asa, your pickups may have been replaced. Original ones are held in by three screws, which are also used to adjust the height and tilt of the pickup. When pickups become microphonic enough to cause feedback or allow lots of mechanical noises (from the pedals) into the signal, it's time to replace or repair them.

Asa,
I have Bill Lawrence 710's in mine and it sounds great.
BL 705's are also good.
