For all those who have been asking about a combo amp, I thought I would post a picture and brief description of the newest TC Furlong Custom product. It’s a tribute to the fabulous Sho-Bud S-15 but with some significant updating and upgrades, The preamp is a stock Sarno Music Solutions Tonic Tube Preamp that slides in and locks in place. (Also slides out easily for travel dates, recording etc.) The power amp is my 300 watt class D. For now, the speaker will be a JBL K-130 or a Peavey 1501 since that’s what most players like in a 15”. If JBL were producing musical instrument speakers, I’d probably just go with those. I may also offer the Weber California speakers although I am not done with thorough testing on those yet.
I’ll be showing it in Dallas next weekend at the TSGA Jamboree along with the SPLIT CB12 and a surprise SPLIT too! We’ll be in the Jackson demo room. Along with David, Harry and Dawn Jackson, Johnny Cox and I will be on hand and we’ll be playing the new line of Jackson steel guitars including the Blackjack Custom, Blackjack, Extreme and Shot Jackson Commemorative models.
Brad Sarno will be around some (between being in his booth and running around) to answer questions and help with demos. Two Revelation rigs with a pair of SPLIT’s and two Tonic Tube Preamps will be available to check out. New amps, new Jackson steel guitars and Johnny Cox tearing it up. It’s all happening in the Jackson demo room! I can’t wait.
I hope to see you there.
TC

T.C. that looks really great. I predict many steel guitar players will be using that combination real soon. Brad Sarno is a really good person and I am sure you are also. T.C., your products and Brad's products are selling, not because you guys are nice guys, but because they sound better than anything else. I am all for your continued success. If there is anything I can do to help you, let me know. It is great to see young guys like you, blowing the big boys away. Got get em! |

Wow guys, thanks so much for the nice words and Keith thanks for your support and especially for referring to me a "young guy". HA! (I'm a quintigenarian or would it be pentagenarian?)
Rob, loaded with a JBL K-130 it weighs 48 LBS. I think it will weigh about 42 LBS with a neo 15". I'll put one in, weigh it and report back.

Pleasing to the eye, pleasing to the ear. Way to go TC, I'd sure like to check out your combo.
Question: does the combo have an extension jack? |

Hey James. I haven't decided about an extension jack but it certainly is possible. I was thinking of using a Neutrik NL4 or NL2 connector which is the standard in the pro world. I have an extension speaker cabinet designed and ready to go. Any opinions on a whether or not I should use Neutrik NL4 or NL2 pro connector? I would include a cable with the extension cab.
Hey Danny, Any 15" speaker should work fine with the open back design as long as you like the sound of the speaker. I was thinking of offering the SPLITonic Custom 15" without a speaker - LYOS(load your own speaker). Any comments on this "no speaker" option would be appreciated.
Hey Doug, I don't think I will try to adapt my 12" driver into an open back design. But since you mentioned it, I'll begin some testing.
Thanks again for all of the nice comments.

T.C. - The "no speaker option" makes sense to me. A customer might prefer a given speaker or even have it on hand (thereby saving them money when they order from you) and it seems as though it would cost you virtually nothing to offer. |

T.C. I like this idea. I would probably take one. I have two orig Peavey D-130 that JBL made i could use one of those. I'm about to go to one amp.

T.C. why not use the speakon connector from neutrik. That is what they are designed for and if you leave a cable at home there is a good chance the sound guy would have a spare to fit. Or is that the connector you mean when you say NL4 Just a thought.

Hi Charlie, Yes the Neutrik NL4 "Speakon" connector is what we both are talking about. It's a great connector.

The Speakon type connector makes a lot of sense. I already have some amps that use them, Acoustic Image, Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight, and Eden bass amps. I've built several speaker cabs in the last couple of years, and I always put a 1/4" and a Speakon on the jack plate wired in parallel. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
