Pedal Steels Guitarists within a 40 mile radius of your house
How many Pedal Steel Guitarists do you know that actively play in bands and live within a 40 mile radius of your house? Back in the mid 60's
I knew 15 that lived and played in bands in a 40 mile radius of my house and they were all in their late twenties and early thirties. Now I know about 7 and
they are all near or over 50. |

I live in Spain and I don't know of anyone who plays steel in Spain, nearest would be France where they breed like rabbits ( steel players that is ) |

I'm sure there are more, but personally I only know of 5 that live within forty miles of me. When i had a teacher (rip) it was almost an hours drive away. |

Brad,I moved mostly out of stupidity!I moved out to L.A.I wanted to learn more about recording and getting my butt kicked the right way,Somehow I survived and came to Alaska to play for a few months with Rosie Flores and then decided to move here because I like falling on the ice.I should have stayed in Texas,Now I can visit. _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5... Were you taking lessons from Stan Remick? Was that you who had the bid in on his NV112 that I now own?
Although we've never met, I'll bet you're within 40 miles of me, Ben.
So that makes 5 I can think of within 40 miles of me... |

I know of only two others with psg's in the whole Mexico City area... forumite Kiyoshi Osawa is the other player, whom I haven't seen here or heard from in quite a while.... he is fairly new to the steel guitar but very enthusiastic about the instrument...does sound for TV and radio commercials and I hear him working the steel into the soundtrack whenever he can, he plays around town now and then with his band also, a kind of country/swing/surf/psychobilly band. The other guy is an owner of a pedal steel.
And no, being this rare doesn't do a thing for you when the demand is even more rare.
I did just get some session work however, so maybe we can get some psg-awareness going from there...hopefully... |

Hey Stu, ísn´t Larry hiding out in Hawaii when itś ice-slipping time up there? Anyway, Iĺl try to get up your way again before too long, so maybe that can count as 0.08 to you. Anyway, gotta remember that forty miles in the lower 48 equals something like two hundred miles in Alaska anyway...if they divided Alaska in half Texas would be the third largest state...but still too darn warm in the summer for me. |

they live a long way away from me.Valencia is about 250 Kilometers and Madrid 600.
I might come to the French steel meeting, I am returning to the UK on the 12th of April on my way to India , I could do with a holiday and I quite like France... |

Closest one is in Bangkok 500 kilometers away.
The closest steel is Steve Tackas in Hua hin
that's only 450 kilometers away,
But he's usually in Bejing. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Thanks Brad this area is steel guitar central and a great spot for a new steel player to learn from some of the best. Stu should have stayed in Texas buddy, however in the last few days we have been learning to fall on the ice too. We got nine inches of snow day before yesterday 20 miles west of Fort Worth, and within 12 hours it's melted and gone as they say if you don't like the weather in Texas just wait fifteen minutes it will change. |

Yes Brian, Stan was my teacher. Great guy. I never saw his amp go up for sale so the bid on it wasnt mine. I dont get out very much Brian but hopefully we'll meet soon. |
