I was curious about the manufacturer of the pickups for the Mullen Guitars. Are they made by Mullen in their shop or are they custom wound by another pickup manufacturer? Will a standard Mullen pickup fit into my 74 MSA?
Thanks |

Don, I believe that's Dixie's job at Mullen, winding the pick-up's, That's what I've heard anyway. _________________ Email: azpedalman@gmail.com

Thanks Fred, do you know if they will fit into my 74 MSA without having to modify the pickup cavity? Anyone?? |

Early MSA Classics had a very narrow pickup opening (narrower than a Mullen I believe) and replacment pickups could not be installed without modifying the guitar. A photo of the pickup area of your steel would be helpful, but offhand I would say that the best approach is to have the stock pickups rewound by jerry Wallace ("Truetone" pickups). |

Hi Don, we do make our own pickups. We make every part and wind them here also. I am not sure if they would fit, but our narrow mount pickups measure 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" That is the bottom plate. Hope this helps. |

Thanks Mike. That is roughly the measurements of my narrow mount BL705's, so apparently they will indeed fit into the older MSA's. |

Don: I had a Kline S-12U that the pickup went bad in it, I sent that to Wallace to rewind, he must do something to them, because when it came back it sounded much better that it ever had. Of course that was in a Kline, & a 12 string pickup at that. I am using what I think to be around a '72 MSA Classic S-12 with the original pickup [of which I have a spare] & if it should go bad, I think I would send that to Wallace to rewind, then you don't have to alter your guitar!!

When I got my Mullen Del told me that he wound the pickup. It was an experiment I guess, and I love the guitar but have mixed feelings about the pick up. |
