It's time to thin the herd to pay for a new mandolin. I have acquired several nice lap and console steel guitars over the last few years. I'm keeping a few, selling a couple of duplicates and a few nice instruments that deserve a good home and more playing time. The following are for sale:
1)Gibson Consolette Double 8. Early 1950's. Very nice korina wood, finish has the fine patina of old age. Metal and plastic parts intact, tuner buttons in excellent shape. Gibson decal intact. Four legs. Two fantastic P-90's that sound great clean or overdriven. The fretboards are a little beat but serviceable. (I had considered making overlays – haven't had time). Currently set up with fresh strings in C6 and E7 tunings. I currently own two of these – this one came in a gig bag, the other an original Gibson case. I will sell it with the gig bag for $500 + shipping. For $700 + shipping I will include the case. SOLD!
2)Rickenbacher Model 59. Circa 1939. Battle ship gray, and built like a tank. Great 1 1/2" pickup. Volume and tone controls, both knobs in good shape. Tuners have seen better days, but they hold tune and all buttons are intact and in good shape. It's been around the block a time or two, shows some wear, but still has sticker from original music store in "Territory of H.I." This instrument sounds very good whether clean or pushed hard. Currently set up with fresh strings in A tuning. No case, but the pickup alone is worth more than my asking price of $500 (+shipping). SOLD!
3)Oahu Tonemaster. Late 1930's. Mahogany with the neat filigree decal work. Headstock decal and body binding are in good shape, as are the tuners and handrest. Aluminum Oahu bridge. Volume and tone. Could use a little shot of pot cleaner. These have a 25" scale – I found it to be a great practice aid for dobro playing. Practice in front of the TV with the guitar unplugged and your wife will NOT threaten to kill you. Case included. $350 + shipping. STILL AVAILABLE!
4)Melobar Skreemer. Mid-late1970's. Explorer-style "pillow" body with good naugahyde cover (comfy!) Twin pickup model. Set up as a 10 string. Bass side is a four string group tuned in E for rockin'. Small gap, then bottom 6 strings tuned to C6 for country twangin'. She's over thirty now, but still in good shape. No case. $450 + shipping. SOLD!
5)Supro Console Double 6. 1961. I bought this fabulous instrument from its original owner, who played it as a kid for a year or two, then stuck it in a closet. Finish (white) and tuners are great, plastic guards (black) intact, neat plexiglass and foil fretboards. These are the classic Supro string-through pickups. Supro metal badge intact. Currently set up with fresh strings in C6 and E7. Original hardshell case. It has original leg sockets, but came without legs. I will include the cool antique folding metal guitar stand that came from the original owner. $600 + shipping. (You will not find one of these in better shape!) SOLD!
6)Wechter Scheerhorn Maple Resonator (square neck). 2007. This fine instrument has seen minimal playing time and is excellent condition. It sounds fantastic, with a nice mellow tone. I will miss it, but alas two Dobros is one too many. (I am keeping my Tut Taylor Tennessean. It cost four times as much, not sure it sounds as good). I will include a good strap and the original hardshell case. $700 + shipping. STILL AVAILABLE!
I prefer PayPal, but can take personal checks if you can wait for them to clear. These are all fun instruments, and very playable. (And I still have some very cool pieces left that are not for sale!) However, I just bought a very expensive mandolin, and Mama says some of these have got to go! Would really prefer that these go to good homes with Forum members – and would rather donate to the Forum than pay Ebay fees. Please send PM or e-mail for details (docfox@pkfamily.com)[/b]

Just a quick note to my friends on the forum. I've had an overwhelming response and am trying to answer PM's and emails in a timely fashion. I am at work, so have to do so during breaks. In the event that more than one of you are interested in the same piece, I will sell to whomever commits to buy first. Also, have had a few qustions re: what's my best price? All of the prices I've listed are basically what my reserve would have been on eBay, and are pretty close to as low as I can go. Everything listed is priced below Vintage Guitar 2007 value guide. |

Save us from eBay! We need good homes and Don needs money!
Oddly enough, the stuff I thought would be hardest to sell on eBay went quickly here on the Forum. Three very cool instruments still left - you won't be disappointed! |
