I've got a tube fex that I haven't used in quite a while and the user manual is unclear on how to apply the global setting to a user preset so that the eq adjustments become active for that particulsr preset. Can someone help? and is the battery replacement something that I can do or does it need to back to Peavey. Thanks to all who respond.

First thing I would do is send it to Ken Fox and get a battery mod. Peavey usually won't warranty their work because of battery leak.

Hey Bo, thanks for the reply. Do you know how to enable the global setting to a particular preset that allows for the use of the input/output/eq section on the front panel of the tube fex that allows the eq's and such to be adjusted without going into the presets program? I will contact mr Fox concerning the battery issue.
Thanks, Ed

From a post I did on the Forum a while back:

I have been playing with two today in the shop and made some changes in the "Global" volume/tone settings:

Pregain at 90-100 percent
Post gain at 10-15 percent

Greatly reduced background noise using a guitar amp (1959 Bassman clone). The gain structure seem a lot different than a Profex 2 and Bassfex, needs a whole different setting. A Profex/Bassfex can hardly stand to see the green light on or it can clip on low notes. The Tubefex/Transtubefex inputs does not seem to be so hot and can take more input signal. The resulting signal to noise ratio is much inproved. Just watch the input for clipping, as you may have a stronger pickup. I was using a Truetone and a old Goodrich pedal LSW) with their built in buffer circuit.

The global volumes are adjusted with any setting that does not have a tube in the preset (ie a Newman preset/setting). A preset with a tube (TB) will not allow global volume/tone changes, except in very early versions of Tubefex software. The menu is obtain by hitting the Global button until INP ** shows up. After setting just press "PLAY" twice to escape.

Give it a try, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I'm sure Ken knows a lot more about it than I do..but here's my 2 cents.
I picked out all the Newman setting I liked and redid them in my tubefex with the tube in front of the settings and they all sound so much better...just put TB> in front of your newman settings and then you can tweek the volume and tones with the rotor nobs and save. This doesn't change the global settings but it does change the over all sound, tone and volume. I like my tube setting a little above the global setting. I could never go back to the settings without the TB>... it just sounds that much better. Find a setting that doesn't have TB in front of it and the then you can change your global settings.

Bo, any chance of posting your settings? I have been wanting to use the tube in front of the chain but never found anything adequate and quit using the TubeFex as always sounded harsh, just another effects unit Sad
BTW Ed, I had Ken Fox do the batteryless mod and went through the rest of it (new vol pot) and was money well spent Razz

I don't use any of the Newman sets at present so I didn't bother to program them into the tubefex but here is what I have written down. I tweek my input,output, and tone settings both Globally and in the Tube depending on the venue I'm playing and I sure you will as most will tweek a lot of my setting to your taste. One of the most popular is this profex
55 – 65 EMMONS: RV+DL+3B
Put the RV+DL+3B and set the global to your taste. Mine is set like this:
Global= inp=50, Lo=0, Mi=0, Lo=0, out=50
Then put the TB>(> is an arrow)in front like this TB>RV+DL+3B
Make the following edits
TB= tube mode= clean, Pr=70, Pd=Hi, Pt=78, Bs=64, Mi=35, Tr=45, Ps=-15
You'll find the Newman profex programs at this url.
http://tubefex.home.comcast.net/~tubefex/
scroll down to Jefb Newman’s p.s. I usually change the Delays and reverbs to stereo.

The batterys usually have already leaked all over the board before you get a low battery warning! You cannot address that issue soon enough!
