Your choices of chord substitutions as you go through each chorus are soulful and artistic - not simply an academic exercise, this is good.
The Baritone guitar fills in the low end beautifully.
Your steel playing is excellent.

Dan,
You played with a lot of feeling, and that reflected in your music. Good job!!
I was wondering how much do you play in the position that you are seen recording on YouTube - I noticed that your hips are quite a bit lower than your knees which puts you closer to the guitar, but do you ever get neck strains after playing awhile?
If I had one suggestion to make, it would be to develop a slight, smooth and constant oscillation of your bar especially where there is whole notes. I would be interested to know after you experiment with that what you think about your sound?

Beautiful playing! Your instruments and playing styles blend together in an excellent way!
By the way - what guitar is that your playing, and in which tuning?
(Regarding Don's comments about posture, I can relate to that - I almost "dip my nose in the strings" sometimes.  I am starting to get back pains though, so I am making an effort to sit up straighter.)

It's great to hear when a duo really "gels" like that!
How long have you been playing together?
I checked out the samples on your site... beautiful stuff!
Like Fred, I'm interested to know what guitar that is you're playing, you sure make it sound sweet.
It looks like an Oahu, is it a short-scale or regular 25"ish scale-length? Squareneck?
What are your favoured gauges for open D on that?
I also sometimes find myself trying to stick my head in the soundhole, maybe I'll develop some kinda new nose-blocking technique, I'm sure I can get some harmonics going with this...hehe |

Thanks for the comments, suggestions and questions.
Don, Thank you for your suggestions on posture and vibrato. While I can thankfully say that I have no signs of back and neck problems after long periods of playing, I did take your suggestion to heart and have raised my bench up a notch. I am liking it. One thing that is not visible in some of the videos is that I am using a foot stool under my left foot to level the guitar on my lap.
Steve, Thanks for your honesty about the intonation on the faster passages. That is definitely something I am constantly working on. I do love Leo Kottke's music. His playing was a big part of the guitar program that I studied in college.
Fred and Chris, The guitar is an Oahu. A short scale, square neck, student model from the 30's. I am using the Pearse Phosphor Bronze open D strings with gauges .015 .018 .027 .038 .048 .060. I do love this guitar, but I must admit, I am looking forward to the arrival of my new hollowneck that is being built by my luthier friend Troy Marcio.
One more thing, there is a new video of ours that was posted today of an up-tempo pop/rock tune with an Eastern Indian influenced bridge and improvised intro. As always, your feedback is welcome, and helpful.
