I am using an Epson Stylus R-320. A real work horse.
Today I got an error message "maintenance is needed on your printer..... parts may be worn...", and it stopped printing.
I understand the printer error can be resolved by resetting the waste pad counter thru software which is included in the cd or can be downloaded. I can't find the software on the cd or on any site. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Have you tried to run the ssc service utility? I've tried to run it in my Vista machine and all it does is hang up the CPU with 100% utilization and that's all. I've tried it in native Vista, XP compatibility and in Win98/ME compatibility modes.
I've got two Epson's, that I use because of the CD/DVD printing, but haven't encountered the maintenance messages yet. |

I use my Epson almost exclusively for CD printing, making 30 or more per week for church. Needless to say, I've already worn out the CD-handling mechanism on 2 R340s (in addition to 2 or 3 replacement CD trays each), and am now 4 months into my R380. I gave away both R340s as the paper print mechanism works fine.
With a brand-new, unopened box Epson R380 available for about $100 delivered to my door, why bother to try to fix them? Especially since 'shop' time probably starts at $70/hr, and you won't have a printer for some period of time.

Bruce, I agree, printers, unfortunately, are like most computer components - "throw away", because the cost to repair can exceed what the unit is worth or even what the cost of a new component or unit is.
I have an RX700 all in one, and an almost new R280 Printer - both have the CD/DVD printing capability. |

Jack, the ssc service utility only tried to reset the ink cartridge chips. I use CIS (Continuous Ink Supply)which resets the chip when I turn on the printer. This is not the proble I'm having.
I do a LOT of printing and the Epson has done a great job. However, if it is possible to correct the error message and reset the ink pad counter myself, why throw it away. I have another Epson so I'll play around trying to fix the old one. Who knows. I'll let you folks know how I make out...........
