I'm not certain the 6139 is a rack and barrel system. Mine is the two hole puller with nylon tuners. _________________ The only thing better than doing what you love is having someone that loves you enough to let you do it.

Well okay. I learned smething new today. Thanks!
Back to the original question. I paid $1500 for mine in excellent condition but remember it's the two hole puller. I have no idea what the rack and barrels are bringing.
For that kind of money I could have bought a lot of other steels but I wanted a sho~bud. I've seen these buds go from around $1000 to $1500 and more. That being said, I saw one go untouched on ebay for $1600 and it was a beauty.
Gawd only know what I'd be willing to pay for a blonde roundfront
Stay tuned. I have no doubt others will be chimimg in. _________________ The only thing better than doing what you love is having someone that loves you enough to let you do it.

These rack and barrel guitars are sometimes refered to as a single neck Professional.
They are no good, junky, and ugly. If you acquire one, you should immediately send it to my house!!
I know how to properly dispose of them!!

Or my house if it's closer. I'd even pay the shipping. I suppose I could salvage a few parts. Maybe. I'm gonna part this one out. I think the Grovers are still good.

I want to make it clear, I have no clue what guitar you are considering, Jim D. These are just some tips.
Some of the biggest issues with these guitars, is you want to make sure the end plates fit well enough for you. And some of the guitars of this era had poorly fitting endplates, looking like they came out of a Jr. High shop class.
Also, another problem to consider: is that you do not have a cabinet that is separating at the corners. The top starts separating from the front and rear aprons at the corners. It will actually split right down the top edge of the inlay. This is a built in shobud flaw in cabinet design that plagues the roundfront guitars and some early squarefronts, for some reason. Singlenecks, double necks, LDG's, makes no differance.
Of course, it's just a cosmetic problem, and the guitar will play and sound great anyways, but you need to determine how bad it is, and can you live with it. It would be a shame to buy a roundfront for top dollar, just to find these problems passed on to you. You need to see better than "vague" pictures before you make this purchase.
Of course, some roundfronts do not even have this problem at all. But it is definately out there.
Here is a Pro II, that the separation was bad enough you could actually pass a business card through the cabinet. It's a long hard professional fix, but it can be done. You just can't squirt some glue in there and clamp it, either. The endplates on this guitar are pretty hammered. This guitar was truly abused.

Great project! Beautiful guitar! Do it! Shobud serial numbers were generated by a random number generator. They are pretty much are meaningless. |

Jim, My daughter's '68 was a rack and barrel, of course. I know it's a '68, because the owner bought it new from the Shobud Factory in '68. We are second owners. This guitar sat in a bedroom it's whole life, as an occasional hobby. It's never been gigged.
Now it's cooped up. It has a Truetone pickup in it now, too. It is a coiltap, with the switch mounted underneath.
