I'm wondering how many of the older Sho~Buds are in actual use today... professionally or otherwise.

Tom Killen with George Jones uses a Pro II and Jon Graboff with Ryan Adams and the Cardinals uses a Pro 1. There must be more.

I used my Pro 1 exclusively on gigs until I sold it to Jon. And I am about to receive another 'Bud which I fully intend to gig extensively. I also took out the big Baldwin D 10 once or twice, before I sold it for something under 100 pounds. Smile

howdy, im not a pro player, but i play my pro 1, bud,[3-4] every day, at week ends i may be on it for two or thee hours at a time, its quite an early one, it has tone and volume controls, on the back apron, only had one string break in the last year, it could do with a make over, but its comfy to play, cant see no reason why it wont last longer than me, lew.

I play for money and as I’ve said many times I’m Hall of Fame in my price range. All Sho-Buds are old.
This is my gig choice of PGS… Black D-10 Sho-Bud Super Pro w/aluminum necks. As you can see I also have my own fence to protect me when they rush the stage. Most times it’s to protect them from me. If you’re interested I have these fences for sale in a kit.Wink

I regularly play my "Cooped" S-10.... gigs and studio. Shared the stage with Larry Campbell the other night..... His Marrs rebuild S-10 blonde round front stage right, my Cooped S-10 black square front stage left.

I've got several old Sho-Buds, although I dont play them on a regular basis, I do from time to time take each one out on a gig. Last month I used my early model Shobud Maverick on a gig. I also have taken my old but all orginal Professional out too. Plays kinda ruff compared to the newer steels but its sure sounds good. I also have an old Baldwin Crossover that I play once in a while here at the house, as well as my Super Pro and LDG. They all sound great!

Yup - my 1972 Model 6139 S-10 Professional gets regular use. I still have to finish working on my universal E9/B6 Sho Bud, but it's gonna get a lot of use when it's done. I'm desperately trying to finish a research project at work so I can get back on it.

I can't imagine anyone throwing an old pedal steel out, so I have to assume that most of them are still around. A lot of them are probably stored away as second or third steels. I have several in boxes.

I'm sure that's true Alan. What I'm interested in knowing is how many are still in regular service.

Ricky, nice looking Buds. Does the LDG have the rack and barrels under it? I have a Pro 1 S10 that doesn't get played much. Beautiful guitar and good tone.

I've been playing out weekly (and sometimes weakly) with a '64 permanent. It's actually the newest steel I own, and my first ten string. Lots of fun. And it sounds pretty darn good when I don't get in the way!

The newest guitar I currently use is a 1976 LDG. My only D-10 right now is a 1973 roundfront Pro-II.

I use the 73 Pro II a lot as well as the 79/80 ProIII..the 70 Professional stays at home in the music room ( used to be Tommy Whites Bud) that way I dont have to move them around too much and one is always set up and ready to play! Smile

My LDG gets played almost every day, and still plays and sounds excellent. Last week I gave it a lube job with Tri-flow. Took out a few rubs, and squeaks. Firt time I used that, and will keep using it. What a good product. The LDG is my only steel, and love it. Only place I have any fade of the green, is by the changer. Don't know what caused it now, but maybe years ago the sun hit it peeking through a window.

Ricky's LDG has barrels behind two hole pullers, and is a very FINE playing/sounding 'bud, since it still has the original shobud pickup in it.

Here's me and Ol' Purple aka the Purple Monster. Note the Crown Royal bag on the keyhead, which has found new life as pick holder. Cool

I'm playing my '70 Blonde Professional, that's Cooped. This at the Kansas Steel Show last October.

Ryan, I have a few Crown Royal "trophys" and your right, what a great pick bag! The Crown ain't half bad, either!
