Greeting all,

Having played non-pedal steel for quite a while, and having had some playing experience on a few other pedal steels (including one I got in a guitar trade that resembles the offspring of a 70's Chinese restaraunt and a 70's standup Space Invaders cabinet) and B/G bender guitar, I've found myself buying an MSA Maverick to finally learn on. Confused

I'm keen to get the guitar setup/tuned for E9 tuning, but am wondering where to start, and what might be the most applicable tuning to work with. I realise now (at work) that I probably should have recorded what the pedals/knee lever is set up for.

I'm also after some sort of reference tone to help with the tuning process.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Hey Charles,

Thanks for the nice welcome!

I'm guessing it's a maverick - it has a maverick badge on the front, an MSA badge on teh over side, and came in an MSA branded case. I'd guess it's from the 70's.

Cheers

Andrew

Hey Bob,

after realising my mistake, I found the link to the PDF - makes perfect sense now. I'll try it out when I get home.

Thanks!

this is slightly confusing uponfurther reflection...the 4th string appears to be tuned to the high E of a guitar, the 3rd to Ab, 2nd Eb, the 1st to F# - are the 1st-3rd at higher pitches than the E?

Welcome Andrew!

And yes, the top three strings are higher pitched than the 4th string E. It was sure weird at first, but I got used to it pretty quick.
