I have a 10 string,E9th neck,5 knee levers and
I have a 10 string,C6th neck,1 knee lever.
E9 neck:-
lkl-1 4& 8 raises from e's > f (+1/2)
lkv-1 5 & 10 lowers b's > A#(b flat)(-1/2)
lkr-1 4 & 8 lowers e's > d#(e flat)(-1/2)
rkl-1 1st string f# >G# (a flat)(+1)
rkl-1 split (-1s)
rkr-1 2nd string e flat (-1/2,1)
9th string d > (-1/2)
C6 neck:-
rkl-1 3rd string c > (-1/2)
Question:What letter should each lever be called other than rkl,lkl etc.? example "F" lever ...etc.Appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Ken |

LKL is F
LKR is E
RKR is D
I'm not certain the others have shorthand names, as they are not as "standard" as these three. Different courses or tab will refer to them differently. You can usually figure that out with a little practice. It doesn't matter how they're labeled as long as you know what they change. _________________ HagFan

Ron is basially correct. These have become standards for naming these levers. However, not all players do this. To make it easy when talking to other steelers, I just say the e lower lever, the e to f lever, etc. There's no question as to what the lever does that way.
And refereing to RKL (without defining what it does) or other lever in this fashion (as seen several times on this forum), does not say anything to other players. Your (and I don't mean you specifically) RKR may not do the same as mine or others. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . On the left leg going left is the F lever. Nothing else. LKL
On the right side of the leg LKR is the D lever. It goes to D#.No sence in trying to change it after 48 years.
That would be the basic standard Emmons factory
setup.Probably not all, but all the students I have had that set them up,half Day,half this or that ,take twice as long to learn.A lot of the setups
seem to be concocked because This guy had a cold (or something).
Most X levers are on the Vertical. If you are ever on the remodel mode, try the X lever on the RKL.It is easier to use ,smoother, but that is just my liking.

peter grant sold me a single 10 no-name steel in 1970..he was playing jerry garcia's old zb at that time, i think.i just started playing it the way it was and added a knee or two. now i've ended up with pedal 1--G#s - A; p2-- Bs -C#; rkr E-F#; rkl E-Eb; lkr E-F; everybody hates me but the changes i need are there somewhere....i used these basics on all my steels for 35 years. it's best just to refer to the function rather than the pedal or lever.
ps...i got that first steel for $75.... |

Chris,
It's 2 vertical knee levers with one coming from the left and one from the right. They are welded where they cross, thus making it look like an X. Trouble is, when you press your knee up, the lever doesn't move.
Seriously, it's a lever that Bobbe Seymore uses and I believe there is an explaination on his web site. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
